The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Giaquinta moves into the clinch.
Shannon is fighting off a takedown attempt but Giaquinta is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Shannon to the mat. Shannon regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Shannon looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Shannon has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Giaquinta has passed into side control.
Shannon is looking for a sweep.
Shannon prevents Giaquinta from moving into mount.
Shannon wants to control but Giaquinta postures up.
Giaquinta content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.
Giaquinta wants to stand but Shannon has his arm trapped.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Giaquinta is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Shannon is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Giaquinta is working for what looks like an arm triangle here. Shannon is trying to escape and Giaquinta transitions quickly into an armbar! He's slapped it on tight and Shannon is forced to tap! Nice work there by Giaquinta! Very nice indeed!
