PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Darwin Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Darwin Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jon Jones!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Columbo Gatti and John Roberts.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon throws a sloppy head kick

and Jones moves into the clinch.

Dixon's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Dixon throws a wild body kick that Jones sees coming a mile off.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Dixon shoots in.

Jones drives through and clinches with Dixon against the cage.

Jones gets control of Dixon's arms and successfully pulls guard. Jones will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Dixon controls from within his opponent's guard.

Dixon thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Dixon showing good wrestling skills to control the position.

Jones wants to stand but Dixon is controlling the position.
Dixon engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Jones is trying to keep Dixon in close.
Dixon working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Dixon not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Dixon on the wrong end of a nice jab.


It looks like Darwin Dixon has been cut.
The fighters circling - Dixon throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Jones throws a front kick that sends Dixon stumbling back into the cage.

Jones shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Dixon napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Jones in side control, trying to ground and pound but not landing this time.
Dixon tries to bench press Jones off him but Jones keeps the position.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jones decides to stand back up.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a front kick that sends Dixon stumbling back into the cage.
Jones fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Dixon looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Dixon is breathing heavily.
No joy there for Jones, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Dixon takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
Dixon chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Jones can pounce on him.
Dixon throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Dixon off to one side.
Dixon throws a decent looking leg kick but it doesn't land clean.
Jones throws a leg kick which misses Dixon's front leg but catches the back leg as Dixon tries to avoid it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Jones instigates a clinch.

Jones pulls guard.

Jones is edging up against the cage. He's using the cage to get back to his feet. Nice work there - the fighters are clinched.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
A short right from Jones.

Jones escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Dixon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Jones scores with a head kick. Dixon tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Jones decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Jones controlling the pace.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The cut man is working on Darwin Dixon's cut.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Jones scores with the left hand. Dixon knows he should have avoided that one.

Jones rushes Dixon and presses him up against the cage.

Jones has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Dixon clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!

Dixon is looking to stand back up. He's having to work hard to escape but eventually he manages it.
Jones is looking to clinch.
Dixon misses with a head kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Jones closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Dixon to the mat! Dixon manages to get full guard.
Dixon is adopting a defensive guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Dixon avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The step up in weight doesn't seem to be a problem for Jones. He's performing admirably here against the bigger man.
Dixon wants to sweep here but Jones controlling him for the moment.
Jones trying to control but Dixon is working from the bottom.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones stops Dixon from standing up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Dixon wants to clinch.
Dixon pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Jones misses with a head kick.
Jon Jones seems to be getting the better of the standup.
Jones displaying good standup as he scores with a three punch combination.
Jones fails to land with a series of punches.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Dixon moves out of range easily.
Dixon was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.
Dixon blocks a low kick nicely.
Dixon circles away from the clinch attempt.
Darwin Dixon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Dixon sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Jones is breathing heavily.

Jones decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Jones explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.
Dixon misses with a body kick.
Jones tries to counter with a clinch but Dixon shakes him off and moves away.
Jones throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Dixon.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dixon scores with a one two! Jones had his feet all tangled up there and couldn't avoid the strikes.
Jon Jones seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Jones has taken the fight to the clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Dixon escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Jones throws a quick inside leg kick.

Dixon closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Jones quickly recovers to half guard.
Dixon not doing much here.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jon Jones showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Dixon moves forwards but Jones connects with a nice, crisp jab.
Jones is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Dixon misses with a straight left.
Jones misses with a double jab.
Dixon tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Jones manages to circle out of the way.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Dixon enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Dixon manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Jones must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Jones postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Dixon lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Jones can do anything to dispel that myth.
Dixon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Dixon drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Dixon jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Jones working for a triangle but Dixon defends it easily.
Dixon is stalling in the full guard.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Jones, right into the meat.
Dixon looks for a takedown but Jones sprawls well.
Jones tries a head kick but it misses.
Jones throws a sloppy head kick and Dixon moves out of range easily.
Jones throws a quick inside leg kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Jones scores with a three punch combo!
Jones throws a right hand that Dixon ducks under and follows up with a left that Dixon also avoids with ease.
Dixon wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.
Jones takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Dixon shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Jones as he jumps to the side.
Dixon takes one on the chin but keeps coming.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Jones.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Dixon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jon Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
