The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Africanus clinches up against the cage.
Spikes with an attempt at a knee that misses.
Spikes is trying to break the clinch but Africanus has him pressed against the cage.

Africanus has moved round to his opponent's back and is looking for a suplex! Oh snap! He's tossed Spikes clear over his head and slammed him to the mat!
Spikes rolls, trying to escape but Africanus keeps control of the position.

Africanus is trying to stick to Spikes's back but Spikes is turning into Africanus. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Africanus's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Spikes.

Spikes will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Spikes has had enough of the clinch but Africanus keeps him there for the moment.
Africanus drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Spikes gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Africanus has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Spikes uses from the top position.
