Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the bantamweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
9 - 8 - 2, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Waldo Claudiano!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
17 - 14 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yuri Sorokov!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Igor Prikhodko and Fedor Mirinova.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Claudiano throws a lazy body kick
and Sorokov counters with a straight right hand.
Sorokov tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Sorokov takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.
Claudiano avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
We can't be sure of the tactics at this early stage but we have heard that Sorokov has been working on his takedowns a lot in the buildup to the fight and we can only assume he's going to look to take this to the mat.
Claudiano closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Claudiano struggles to land a body shot inside as Sorokov controls his hands.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Claudiano.
Sorokov has Claudiano pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Sorokov pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Claudiano tumbling to the mat - Sorokov dives into Claudiano's guard.
Sorokov makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Claudiano is on top in guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Claudiano lands a couple of elbows.
Claudiano wants to control from the top but Sorokov keeps moving.
Claudiano is really struggling to control Sorokov but he's trying to hold on to the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Sorokov wants to sweep here but Claudiano controlling him for the moment.
Claudiano content to stall in guard here.
Sorokov looking for a sweep. Not yet Sorokov, not yet.
Sorokov is looking for a triangle but Claudiano pushes his legs off easily.
Claudiano landing some decent shots from guard.
Sorokov can't keep his opponent in guard - Claudiano advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Claudiano maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Sorokov could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Claudiano has cracked it and Sorokov is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Claudiano!
