The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in riley's guard.
riley is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

riley is looking for a kimura but Maia is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for riley to get the leverage.
riley prevents Maia from improving his position.
riley will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

riley is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

riley wants to pass the guard but Maia is defending well.
riley is tying to control. Maia wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
Maia has his head snapped back a nice jab. A little nod from Maia there as he acknowledges the shot.

Maia changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. riley looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
riley tries to improve position but can't.

Maia tries for a kimura but riley is defending well.
