PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Denis Kang (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lazarus Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Enter Sandman. The key to victory for Denis Kang has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Denis Kang!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Lazarus Jones!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Cecil Peabody and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Kang gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Jones lands with a quick shot inside that doesn't really do much damage.


It looks like Denis Kang has been cut.
Kang is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.
Kang wants to break free but Jones has control.
Jones drops down looking for an ankle pick but Kang pulls his leg out and moves away.

Jones closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Jones with the ground and pound but Kang uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Jones throws and elbow that misses. Kang uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Jones's guard. Nice move by Kang!

Jones looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Kang passes into half guard.

Jones is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Kang pulls his head out easily.

Jones is looking for a sweep. Kang is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jones has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Kang wants to stand but Jones has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.

Kang will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Kang tries to clinch there but Jones circles away.

Kang throws a series of punches but Jones avoids them all with ease.
Kang misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Kang rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Jones moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Denis Kang is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Jones fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Kang sprawls well initially but Jones persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Kang is looking to escape.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Jones is keen to just control but Kang is a slippery customer.
Jones works his way into side control.
It's got to the stage where if one of these guys blows hard enough, the other might fall over.

Kang takes a big shot right to the temple there but he's taken it well.

Jones is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.

Kang gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
Denis Kang seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Kang throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

enabling Kang to counter with a crisp jab.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Kang utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Both of our modern day gladiators look out of it here - an gruelling 5 rounds of action taking it's toll on them, no doubt.

Jones passes Kang's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Jones in particular looking to stall.
Kang is trying to stand up here but Jones is controlling him well.
Jones moves into full mount! Kang won't be happy about that!
Kang is desperately trying to improve his position but Jones has a good base and remains in mount.
Kang takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Kang is bucking up trying to escape but Jones cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Jones connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Jones is in the full mount, landing strikes.

Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Kang can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Kang really wants to buck Jones off and get back to his feet.

Lazarus Jones is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Lazarus Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Jones has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
