PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Diesel Owens (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alen Zalac (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Alen Zalac was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Diesel Owens!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Alen Zalac!
The judges for this bout are Ryoma Takatsuka, Josh West and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zalac slips a jab and a cross from Owens.
Zalac let fly with a counter punch to the body but it didn't land.
Owens throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Zalac uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Owens.
Owens throws an overhand right that lands on Zalac's shoulder, as Zalac tries to avoid the shot.
Zalac lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Owens circles away quickly and effectively.
Owens lands the left hand.
Owens takes a swing at Zalac's ribcage but misses.
A looping hook to the body misses from Owens. Zalac does a little dance to reset his feet.
Owens swinging wildly here.
Owens moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big left from Zalac misses.
Owens misses with a body shot.
Zalac is clearly trying to counter these attacks from Owens with a body shot.
Owens stalks Zalac and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Zalac's face. Zalac staggers backwards, shaken.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Owens misses with a series of wild punches.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Zalac fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Zalac closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Owens's guard.

Owens throwing his legs up looking for a triangle.
Zalac must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Owens keeping moving, preventing Zalac from controlling successfully.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Zalac got a little sloppy there for a moment and Owens has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zalac has managed to get both his arms back between Owens's legs - danger averted.

Owens has his foot on Zalac's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Zalac works his way back into a safe position though.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Owens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zalac is aware though and is defending well.
Zalac landing some decent shots from guard.

Owens working for a triangle but Zalac defends it easily.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Zalac cracks Owens with a solid left hand.

Zalac scores with a decent looking elbow strike.

Owens is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Zalac is aware though and is defending well.
Zalac connects with a couple of short punches.
Zalac working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Zalac avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Owens keeping moving, preventing Zalac from controlling successfully.

Owens had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Zalac defends it easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Zalac content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.

Zalac got a little sloppy there for a moment and Owens has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Zalac has managed to get both his arms back between Owens's legs - danger averted.
Zalac really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Owens. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Owens has momentary wrist control but Zalac slips an elbow through the middle.
Zalac working some strikes from top position.
Zalac is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Owens is looking to cinch up a triangle. Zalac throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Owens's body to avoid the submission. Owens has instead reached around Zalac's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Owens arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:50 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Diesel Owens!
