PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Erik Williams (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Spackman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). John Spackman told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Erik Williams!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, John Spackman!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Chris Edwards and Sam Margolis.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Williams fails with an attempt to clinch.
Spackman takes a jab right on the kisser.
Spackman bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Williams misses with a leg kick.
Williams lands a jab to the head.
Horrible takedown by Spackman or perhaps it was just good defense by Williams which made him look bad.

Spackman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Spackman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Williams is working to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Williams tries to hold on but Spackman pushes him away.

Spackman is working for a guillotine from mount but Williams frees his head quite easily.

Spackman wants to finish this one by submission but Williams is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Spackman.

Spackman won't let Williams get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.
Spackman throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Spackman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Williams is looking to escape.
Williams is wriggling around trying to escape.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Williams wants to use the cage to get back to his feet here.
Spackman fails to advance to Williams's back.

Spackman swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Williams is now in Spackman's guard. A big mistake from Spackman there, giving up the dominant position!
Williams wanted to stand there but Spackman had control of the position.
Spackman wants to sweep but no luck.

Williams tries to free his leg and advance position but Spackman is retaining full guard.

Spackman looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Spackman is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Spackman wants to sweep here but Williams controlling him for the moment.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Williams connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
Spackman throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Williams's waist but Williams gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Spackman off to one side.

Erik Williams has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of John Spackman.

Spackman closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Spackman lands a nice short elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Spackman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Williams moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.
Spackman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Williams throws a nice looking combination but Spackman bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Williams lands with a right hand.

Spackman darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Williams keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Williams wants to get back to full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Williams makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Spackman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Williams as he jumps to the side.

Williams moves into the clinch successfully.

Spackman works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Spackman is trying for a kimura here. Williams looks like he's in a lot of pain... and he's tapping out! Spackman wins by kimura!
