Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Val Mathis (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Lozago Luque (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Val Mathis!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lozago Luque!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Luque drives through and clinches with Mathis against the cage.
Mathis jumps guard but Luque stands there with Mathis around his waist. Mathis gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Luque pulls guard successfully.
Luque looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Mathis makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Mathis has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Mathis throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Luque works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Mathis working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Luque scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Luque shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Lozago Luque seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Luque shoots for a takedown but Mathis saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Luque throws a head kick that misses
and Mathis counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Mathis has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Luque changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mathis tries to avoid it but Luque manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mathis to the ground. Mathis escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
It appears Mathis was looking to counter with a kick there.
Val Mathis has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Lozago Luque.
Luque tries to score a power double leg takedown but Mathis sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Luque somewhat.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Luque gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Mathis blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Mathis tries to pull guard but Luque holds him up against the cage and eventually Mathis drops back down to his feet.
Luque is trying to pull guard but Mathis turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Luque is trying to pull guard but being pressed up against the cage enables Mathis to keep the fight standing.
Mathis doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Mathis manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.
Mathis is looking to take this one to the mat.

Mathis has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Luque avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Mathis tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Luque just stands there and leans against the cage.

Luque decides to pull guard.
Mathis throws a big right hand that misses.
Mathis postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Mathis sitting in guard here, content to control.

Mathis avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Mathis will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Luque looks winded!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Mathis drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Mathis jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
Luque really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Mathis. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Luque avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Mathis trying to control but Luque is working from the bottom.
Mathis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Mathis working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Luque's head.
Mathis distracts Luque with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm.
Mathis trying to control the position from guard on top but Luque is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Mathis being controlled here momentarily.
Mathis is looking to work some ground and pound but Luque has wrist control.
Mathis is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Mathis wants to control from the top but Luque keeps moving.
Mathis loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Mathis drops back, looking for a kneebar! Luque looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Luque looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Luque!

You can see the frustration on Mathis's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mathis parries the strikes from Luque easily there. Luque is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Mathis to escape.
Mathis is not content to let Luque control the position.
Mathis stops Luque from passing to mount.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Luque wants to lay and pray for a moment but Mathis keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Lozago Luque dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Mathis slaps away a takedown attempt from Luque, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Luque takes the fight into the clinch.
Mathis trying to stall but Luque improves his position.
Mathis is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Luque gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.
Luque has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Mathis goes for a takedown in the clinch but Luque prevents it.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A left hand lands to the body for Luque.

Mathis pulls Luque into guard.
Mathis looking for a sweep. Not yet Mathis, not yet.
Luque controlling from the top position.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Mathis has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Luque can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Mathis looking for a triangle here. Luque is fighting it but it looks tight! Mathis pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Luque is tapping out - this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:40 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle Choke). Val Mathis!
