The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Saman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Saman goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Johnson turns into him and now he's in Saman's guard.
Johnson is looking to work some ground and pound but Saman has wrist control.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Saman has control of Johnson's left arm, preventing Johnson from doing any damage.
Johnson stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Saman swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Johnson postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Saman goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
Rich Johnson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Saman has a takedown stuffed.
Saman closes the distance and clinches up with Johnson, looking for a takedown. Saman pushes Johnson against the cage but Johnson circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Fengi Saman. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Johnson shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Saman's guard.
