Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Shannon Atkins (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nikki Heat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shannon Atkins has the edge in experience - let's see if he can make that count tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Shannon Atkins!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nikki Heat!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Heat tries to close the distance and clinch but Atkins swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Atkins is looking to counter punch.
Heat tries to clinch up.

Heat shoots in and bounces Atkins off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Atkins looking to hit a scissor sweep but Heat is one step ahead there.
Heat advances position into side control!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Heat goes for an armbar here - this could be all over! But no, Atkins has escaped beautifully and is now on top in side control! Oh, that's unlucky for Heat but great work by Atkins.

Atkins taking a breather here.
A control attempt from Heat but he's now mounted!
Heat tries to lock up and control but Atkins gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Atkins will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Atkins sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Atkins scoring with strikes but Heat is staying in there.
Heat is trying desperately to improve position.

Atkins working the ground and pound effectively.
Atkins prevents Heat from getting the reversal.
Atkins controlling the position easily from mount.
Atkins wants to take Heat's back but he can't do it this time.
Atkins controlling his opponent.
Heat tries to hold on but Atkins pushes him away.

Atkins with some aggressive grappling here, looking for the finish.
Atkins takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Heat tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Atkins is landing with some decent strikes but Heat is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Atkins breaks from Heat's wrist control and lands an elbow.
Atkins really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Heat keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Atkins is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Heat tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Heat keeps trying to improve his position.
Heat wants to hold on but Atkins pushes him away.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Heat really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Atkins looking to control and managing it successfully.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Heat fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Atkins sprawls well initially but Heat persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Atkins is trying to get back to full guard.
The fighters are battling for position here. Atkins manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Atkins looking to control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Heat wants to control from the top but Atkins keeps moving.
Heat postures up.

Atkins throws some shots to the body, keeping his opponent honest.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Atkins is looking for a triangle here but Heat uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Heat trying to control the action but Atkins is working from the bottom.

Heat wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Atkins, who protects the arm well.

Heat decides to take the fight back to the feet.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Heat shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Heat is trying to control the action in half guard but Atkins is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Atkins wants to improve his position but Heat is controlling well.
Heat wants to control but Atkins is keeping him busy.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Atkins is on the bottom, trying to hold on to half guard. He's throwing a few small shots here, to keep his opponent honest.
Heat is keen to just control but Atkins is a slippery customer.
Heat is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.
Heat stalling away here and it's allowed Atkins to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Atkins lands a good elbow from the bottom.
Heat wants to control from the top but Atkins keeps moving.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
That's a knee to de groin and it's over and out! Atkins crumples to the ground after an illegal strike from Heat - the referee stops the clock and Atkins gets 5 minutes to recover from that one. "I'm sorry" says Heat. Atkins manages to get back to his feet and the fight resumes.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Heat dives in and scores a takedown into Atkins's guard.
Heat is breathing heavily.
Atkins is striking but Heat is not phased and passes to half guard.
Atkins is trying to control but can't.
Heat trying to control from half guard but Atkins is working away.
Heat throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Atkins moves into full guard.

Heat stands up and waves to Atkins to follow him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nikki Heat showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Heat decides to stand up, so the ref orders Atkins to his feet.

Heat looking to score a takedown here. Atkins is defending well but Heat drives through and ends up in Atkins's guard.

Atkins can't keep his opponent in guard - Heat advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.

Atkins wants to control the action here but instead Heat manages to pass to full mount!
Heat fakes a shot to the body and cracks his opponent in the head. Nice ground and pound there!
Atkins holding onto his opponent's waist for dear life, as Heat tries to land some strikes to get him to release his grip.
Atkins is working to get back to half guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Atkins has given up his back here.
Atkins avoids the strikes from Heat.

Heat thows a huge left but connects with the canvas and not his opponent.
Heat misses with an elbow to the head.
Heat trying desperately to keep hold of the dominant position.
Heat is controlling the position but Atkins somehow manages to roll and ends up with half guard.
Atkins works his way to full guard. Good work.
Heat trying to control the position from guard on top but Atkins is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Heat controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Atkins wants to sweep here but Heat controlling him for the moment.
Heat trying to control but Atkins is working from the bottom.
Atkins is looking to sweep but instead, Heat has passed into half guard.
Heat wants to take a breather but Atkins is having none of it.
Heat prevents Atkins from improving his position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Heat is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Atkins doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Heat.
Atkins is looking for a sweep. Heat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Atkins is in trouble now - Heat has advanced to mount!
Heat throwing sloppy strikes, which aren't doing any damage.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nikki Heat comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Heat has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
