The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Shannon wants to clinch.
Shannon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Piper paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Piper drives through with a takedown into guard.

Piper stops Shannon from getting back to his feet.
Piper lands strikes from half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Piper moves into full mount! Shannon won't be happy about that!

Shannon tries to buck Piper off but Piper takes his back!

Piper looking to break Shannon's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. Shannon remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Piper will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!
Piper has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Piper is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Shannon. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.

Piper is working for a rear naked choke. Shannon is not defending it well and Piper has tightened it up quickly! This could be all over! Shannon refuses to tap and goes to sleep, forcing the referee to intervene. A little trickle of blood came out of Shannon's nose as his head slumped to the floor. That is naaaasty!
