Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Jesus Garza (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Barath (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chris Barath is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jesus Garza!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Chris Barath!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Wesley Smith and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Barath feints and then cracks Garza's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Garza down.
Garza gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Barath counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Garza misses with a double jab.
Barath wants to clinch.

Barath shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Garza is trying to defend but Barath finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Garza really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Barath really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Garza. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Barath decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Barath misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

and Garza connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Garza stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Garza wants it to stay on the feet.
As Barath backs away, Garza returns fire with a leg kick that just misses.

and Garza counters with a left to the body.
Garza fails with the takedown.
Barath is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Garza tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barath swivels and escapes.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Garza. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barath shoots in looking for a takedown. Garza tries to sprawl out of it but Barath keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Garza manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Garza dives in and grabs Barath's left leg, looking for a takedown. Barath pushes down on Garza's head and hops out.
Garza connects with a body shot.
Barath tries to clinch
and Garza counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Garza drops down looking for an ankle pick but Barath pulls his leg out and moves away.

Barath clinches up against the cage.
Garza can't get the takedown.
Garza drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Barath gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Garza tries to score a body lock takedown but Barath shows good agility there to stay on his feet.
Garza is breathing heavily.

Barath breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Garza shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Barath napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Barath bucks up and tries to throw Garza off but instead Garza has got his back!

That's four minutes gone in the round.
I really don't envy Barath right now.
Barath wants to get back to his feet.
Barath trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.

Garza is persistently looking for the submission but Barath is defending it well.
Barath trying to control the hands but Garza won't let him.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Jesus Garza will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Barath looking to land some kicks to the body here.
It looked like Garza was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Barath.

Garza looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Barath!

Barath throws Garza to one side and escapes!
Barath tries to close the distance and clinch up but Garza swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Garza jinks towards his opponent looking like he wants to counter with a mid kick but doesn't commit.
Nice sprawl there from Barath as Garza shoots in.

Garza feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Barath is on top in guard.

Barath drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Garza manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Barath has Garza in his guard.


Barath is active off his back here, looking for submissions.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Barath pushes Garza off and gets back to his feet.
Barath swings wildly with a hook that is half blocked by Garza.
Barath misses with a takedown attempt
and Garza counters with a left and a right that stings Barath.
Barath swats away the attempt to clinch by Garza.
Barath was about to counter that last move with a leg kick but changes his mind.

Barath misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Barath is breathing heavily.
Garza has a takedown stuffed.
Barath fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Jesus Garza has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Chris Barath.

Chris Barath seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Garza leaves Barath with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Garza shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Barath but Barath pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Garza gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Barath regains guard.

Barath scrambles and gets back to his feet.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Garza shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Barath pinned against the cage. Barath gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Chris Barath showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!


Garza shoots in but Barath avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Garza shoots in for a double leg but Barath sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Garza changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barath tries to avoid it but Garza manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barath to the ground. Barath escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesus Garza. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Barath misses with a body kick.
Barath tests Garza's chin there with a solid looking shot.

Barath gets caught napping as Garza dives in and scores a takedown. Barath manages to retain guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Barath looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Garza has picked Barath up and slammed him! Barath can't keep hold of the triangle and Garza manages to pass to side control!

Garza stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Barath lands with a kick to the temple. Garza shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Garza shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Barath sprawls well. Barath wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Garza gets slowly back to his feet.
Garza sets himself, and Barath steps forward looking for the clinch! Garza avoids it this time.

Barath changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Garza looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Garza bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
Garza explodes with a nice body kick and back out of range. Nice work.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Garza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barath avoids it really well and circles away.
Nice takedown defense from Garza. No joy for Barath on that attempt.
Barath tries a head kick but it misses.
Barath stuffs the takedown attempt from Garza. Garza gets slowly back to his feet.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Barath shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Garza as he jumps to the side.
Garza looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Garza misses with a two punch combination.
Garza fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Barath avoids it really well and circles away.

Barath clinches with his opponent.
Barath misses with a knee to the head.
Garza throws a knee to the head but misses.
Barath is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Garza is defending well.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Barath tries to circle away but Garza has him pinned against the cage.
A bit of stalling here from Barath.

Garza has Barath pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Garza pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Barath tumbling to the mat - Garza dives into Barath's guard.
Barath wants to get back to his feet but Garza passes into half guard.
Barath is trying to control but can't.
Barath avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Garza.

Garza is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jesus Garza.
I think Garza has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
