PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Luke Pratchett (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Terrence Funk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd seem to be enjoying Funk's choice of entrance music: Megadeth - Peace Sells (But Who's Buying?). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Terrence Funk was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Terrence Funk!
The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Yamamoto, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Ren Mimura.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Funk connects with a right hand. Pratchett shakes it off.
Funk misses the jab.
Pratchett throwing a counter right hand but Funk manages to avoid it.

A counter left hand to the body from Pratchett misses its target.
Pratchett lands a jab to Funk's midsection.
Funk shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
and Funk takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
Funk takes one on the chin but keeps coming.
Funk throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Pratchett's waist but Pratchett gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Funk off to one side.
Funk bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Pratchett's head backwards.

Luke Pratchett has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Terrence Funk.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Funk tries to score a power double leg takedown but Pratchett sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Funk somewhat.

Pratchett stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Funk swivels though and keeps the full guard.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Pratchett has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Funk is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Pratchett wants to control but Funk is keeping him busy.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Funk has found himself in a tricky position here. He's been working his transitions in training so let's see if he can work his way out of it.

Pratchett drops back, looking for a kneebar! Funk looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Funk looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Funk!

Pratchett is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.
Funk drops his hands momentarily and Pratchett takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

and Pratchett scores with a counter punch that sends Funk to the canvas! Pratchett smells blood - he's punishing Funk with more strikes and the ref has stopped it! Funk has no idea where he is - he's tackled the ref... oh dear, poor guy, the crowd is in hysterics!
