Coming up we have a super heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robin Gaia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mauro Gomes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gaia comes to the cage accompanied by Manowar- Battle Hymn. Gomes is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Buraka Som Sistema - Sound Of Kuduro. I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Mauro Gomes was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaia checks a low kick from Gomes.
Gomes throws a leg kick but Gaia moved away.
Gomes ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gaia moves away.
Gomes tries to land a front kick but Gaia steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
Gaia ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Gaia ducks under a wild hook from Gomes.
Gomes throws a looping overhand right but Gaia ducks down to avoid it.
Gaia checks the leg kick.
Gaia dodges the punch combination from Gomes.
Gomes misses with a straight left.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaia shoots for a takedown but Gomes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Gomes lands with an uppercut that bounces Gaia off the cage and back into rage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Gomes lands with a hook. Gaia tried to avoid it but it clipped the top of his head.
Gomes loads up on a big right hand but Gaia slips the punch.

Gomes is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Gaia.
Gomes looks to land a right hand but Gaia moved out of range.
Gomes scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Mauro Gomes is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gomes throws a series of strikes that have Gaia backpedaling.
Gaia throws a body kick that sends a sickening thudding noise reverberating around the arena.

Gomes pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Gaia has a takedown stuffed.
Gomes smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Gaia avoids the body shot from Gomes.
A jab-cross combination lands for Gomes and sends Gaia crashing to the mat! Gomes follows him down to the mat - Gaia regains half guard but he's not out of trouble yet!

Gaia is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Gomes pulls his head out easily.
Gaia is looking to improve his position.

Gomes postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Gaia to stand up.

Gomes connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Gaia momentarily.
Gomes throws a series of punches but Gaia avoids them all with ease.
Gomes thows a left - swing and a miss!
Gomes dips to his left and cracks Gaia with an uppercut!

Robin Gaia's cut is getting worse.
Gomes tries to clinch up but Gaia circles away and keeps his distance.
Gaia tries for a takedown but Gomes sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Gaia is breathing heavily.
Gomes fails in his attempt to clinch.
Gomes cracks Gaia with a big right hand that sends him crashing to the floor. Gomes has the opportunity to follow him to the ground but instead he's beckoning Gaia to stand back up!

Gaia is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gomes missing with a left hand there. Gaia was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.
Oh Gaia is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!

Gaia slips a straight right by Gomes.
Gaia seems to have got his legs back now.
Gaia fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Gomes attempts a low kick but it misses it's target.
Gaia moves out of range as Gomes strikes.
Gomes steps into range and cracks Gaia with a monster punch that buckles his knees! Gaia flops backwards and Gomes dives into his guard looking to finish!
Gomes is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Gomes must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gomes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gaia, up you get!

Gaia swats away the attempt to clinch by Gomes.
Gomes wants to clinch up but Gaia keeps it at a distance.

Mauro Gomes seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gaia slips under a jab.
Gaia slips a jab from Gomes.
Gaia shoots for a takedown but Gomes saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Gaia changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Gomes tries to avoid it but Gaia manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Gomes to the ground. Gomes escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Gomes throws a nice looking combination but Gaia bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Gaia steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Gomes.

A jab from Gomes finds it's way through Gaia's defenses.
Gomes jabbing away but nothing is landing.
Gomes misses with a wild body shot.
Gomes drops Gaia with a right and a left! Gomes comes rushing in but Gaia regains his composure and manages to keep Gomes in guard.

Gomes decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Gaia, up you get!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Gomes throws the left hand but Gaia avoids the punch easily.
No luck for Gaia with that takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Robin Gaia. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Gomes fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Gaia is out of range.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Gaia. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.

Robin Gaia's cut is bleeding quite badly. He's got to try and protect it.
Gaia uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Gomes.
Oh, that's a big right hand from Gomes and Gaia goes tumbling to the canvas! Gomes follows him to the ground and looks to finish from half guard.

Gomes moves into side control, avoiding a weak kimura attempt from Gaia.
Gaia is trying to improve his position.

Gomes stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Gomes lands a big shot that drops Gaia! Can he finish him?

Jeez, Robin Gaia's cut is really nasty now. The referee must be thinking about getting that checked.

Gaia working away from the bottom but not quite defensive enough there because Gomes has passed into half guard!
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Gomes takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Gaia wants to sweep but Gomes has passed to side control!

Gomes stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Gaia walks into a jab.

Gomes lands with a right and another and another! Gaia is in big trouble! Gomes lands again and this time it's lights out for Gaia! A quality knockout there for Gomes.
