PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Andre Guy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nate Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Andre Guy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Nate Diaz!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, George Francis and Cecil Peabody.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Diaz.
Guy is looking for a counter combo.
Diaz tries to clinch up.
Guy is looking to counter the offense by Diaz and move into the clinch.
Guy misses with a looping left.
Diaz tries to counter by closing the distance.
Guy keeps the fight on the outside.
Guy throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Diaz counters with a takedown into side control.
Guy is looking to reverse the position.
A lull in the action here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Guy tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it.
Diaz takes a little break here. Guy wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

Diaz advances to full mount.

Diaz is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!
Guy misses with a looping left.
And Diaz tries to counter it with a takedown but Guy pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Guy with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Diaz looks to land a body kick but Guy moved away.

Diaz feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Guy is looking to stand back up but Diaz counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Guy.

Diaz content to control rather than advance.

Diaz is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Guy is looking to improve his position but Diaz isn't that keen on the idea.
Diaz controlling the pace for now.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Diaz throws a head kick but Guy moves out of range.
No joy there for Diaz, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guy tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Diaz was well out of range. Poor timing from Guy.
Guy tests Diaz's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Guy swats away the attempt to clinch by Diaz.
Guy wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch.

Diaz gets a takedown into half guard.
Diaz controlling the action here.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Diaz shoots in and gets a takedown into Guy's guard.
Diaz has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Diaz's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Diaz with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Guy can't keep his opponent in guard - Diaz advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Diaz postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Guy to stand up.

Diaz fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Guy sprawls well initially but Diaz persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Diaz content to control rather than advance.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Diaz has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Guy knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Diaz on the ground.
Diaz lands strikes from half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Diaz works his foot free and advances to mount.
Diaz content just to control the position here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Diaz's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

Diaz stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt.

Guy scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground.

Diaz kicks off Guy and gets to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Guy misses with the combination.
Diaz tries to clinch but Guy moves out of range.
Diaz lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Guy circles away quickly and effectively.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Diaz tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Guy manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Guy is looking to counter with a shot to the body.
Diaz tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Guy counters with a lovely straight right hand!
Guy avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Nate Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!



Guy gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Diaz to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Diaz controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
More stalling from Diaz.

Diaz passes Guy's left leg - he's now in half guard.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Diaz is continuing to stall.

Diaz lands a big elbow.
Diaz tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
The adventures of Diaz the control monster continue. Boring.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Diaz is landing with some decent strikes but Guy is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.
Diaz controlling from mount.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Andre Guy has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Nate Diaz is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

And that's the end of the fight!
Nate Diaz comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Diaz winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
