PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Preston Guerrero (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlton Moretto (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, I have no idea who's going to take this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Preston Guerrero!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Carlton Moretto!
The judges for this bout are George Francis, Chris Downing and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Moretto lands with a kick to the ribs.
Moretto throws the kick towards the body but Guerrero avoids it.
It looked like Guerrero was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Moretto closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Guerrero has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Moretto regains guard immediately.
Guerrero is standing up over Moretto. Moretto looks to escape but Guerrero dives into side control.

Moretto manages to work his way to half guard, despite Guerrero's best efforts.
Moretto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moretto manages to get to full guard.
Moretto has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Guerrero has passed into side control.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Moretto is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
Moretto can't do much from the bottom here.
Moretto gets back to half guard.
Moretto is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Moretto is looking to control Guerrero's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Moretto avoid being mounted?
Moretto is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Guerrero's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Guerrero's back!

Guerrero manages to escape to his feet.
Moretto fakes the leg kick and cracks Guerrero in the body.

Moretto moves into the clinch.

Guerrero escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Moretto fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Guerrero sprawls well initially but Moretto persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

Moretto is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Guerrero is just riding it out for now. Moretto eventually gives up the hold.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Moretto is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Guerrero has managed to free his arm - good work.
Guerrero is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Moretto wants to lay and pray for a moment but Guerrero keeps working.

Moretto is working for a kimura but Guerrero is defending it quite comfortably.
Guerrero has his hands clasped together around Moretto's back. He's all about the action.

Moretto tries to pass the half guard into mount. Guerrero knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Moretto takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Guerrero is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Moretto pulls his head out easily.
Guerrero is trying to maintain the position but Moretto is very close to passing his half guard.
Moretto is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Moretto is looking to advance position but Guerrero won't allow it.
Guerrero has his hands clasped together around Moretto's back. He's all about the action.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Moretto wants to control but Guerrero is keeping him busy.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Carlton Moretto dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Moretto moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Moretto postures up and lands a big shot to Guerrero's brow.
Moretto is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Moretto wants to control from the top but Guerrero keeps moving.
Moretto tries to stand but Guerrero is controlling from the bottom.
Guerrero manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Moretto manages to get himself to full guard.

Guerrero cracks Moretto with a solid left hand.
Moretto is trying to keep Guerrero in close.

Moretto is trying to hold Guerrero in close to prevent damage but Guerrero has managed to pass into half guard.
Moretto has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Guerrero is working away from the top position though.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Moretto works his way to full guard. Good work.

Moretto working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Guerrero doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Guerrero manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Moretto is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Moretto is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

Guerrero gets full guard.
Moretto trying to control the position from guard on top but Guerrero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Guerrero's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Moretto wants to stand but Guerrero has a closed guard, so he can't escape.

Guerrero seems keen to control Moretto's posture.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Further stalling from Guerrero.
Moretto wants to control from the top but Guerrero keeps moving.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Moretto throws a head kick that misses.
Guerrero is looking for a counter combo.

Moretto fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Guerrero to the ground. Moretto is now in Guerrero's guard.
Guerrero looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Moretto trying to control the position from guard on top but Guerrero is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Carlton Moretto showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

and Guerrero counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Moretto throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Guerrero.

Moretto has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Moretto tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Moretto plants his feet and lands a nice head kick!

Guerrero was looking to counter that last move with a shot to the body but he didn't commit.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Guerrero enables Moretto to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Guerrero manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Guerrero pushes Moretto off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Moretto drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Preston Guerrero.
I think Moretto has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
