PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Frank Lopez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Piet Kriel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Piet Kriel struggled to make weight for this fight. He only made it down to 187.5lbs at the first attempt and had to take the additional two hours to make the official bout weight. Let's see how much it's taken out of him. Frank Lopez has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 7 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Piet Kriel!
The judges for this bout are Dmitry Maklakov, Illya Tyunina and Vladimir Khabensky.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Lopez enables Kriel to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Lopez manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Lopez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Kriel looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!
Lopez is pulling down on Kriel's head. It's preventing any offense from Kriel, at least for the moment.
Lopez has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Lopez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lopez throws a series of strikes that have Kriel backpedaling.

and Lopez counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Lopez lands a nice looking body shot.
Lopez fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.
Lopez feints and then cracks Kriel's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Kriel down.
Lopez lands with a thumping leg kick.
Lopez ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.

Lopez lands with a straight right. Kriel didn't see that one coming.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Lopez lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
Kriel misses with a takedown attempt - Lopez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Lopez turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Kriel takes a solid shot to the body. That one hurt him but he's trying not to show it.
Lopez thuds a left hand into Kriel's body.
Kriel on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

Lopez lands a big head kick that sends Kriel tumbling to the mat! Lopez takes a step backwards and waves Kriel back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Kriel is rocked!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
and Lopez counters with a massive uppercut that badly hurts Kriel! He's just covering up as Lopez starts to tee off till the referee steps in and stops the fight!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:56 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Frank Lopez!
