PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Buster Leon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chuck Liddell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Liddell has chosen DMX-Intro as his entrance music. Buster Leon has a significant reach advantage - let's see if he can make it count.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Buster Leon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Chuck Liddell!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Leon is trying to stand up here but Liddell is controlling him well.
Liddell controlling the action here.
Liddell is looking to advance position but Leon won't allow it.
Liddell is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Leon is trying to stand.
Well, if Liddell is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Leon really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Leon has one foot on Liddell's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Leon fakes low and throws an overhand right that catches Liddell on the side of the head.

Leon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Liddell to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Leon has momentary wrist control but Liddell slips an elbow through the middle.
Liddell trying to control the position from guard on top but Leon is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Leon pushes Liddell off and gets back to his feet.

Liddell closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Leon quickly recovers to half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Liddell performing his best blanket impression for a moment.

Liddell looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Leon makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

Liddell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Leon to the ground. Liddell is now in Leon's guard.
Liddell pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Leon is keeping the position for now.
Liddell prevents Leon from getting back to his feet.
Leon tries to land a sweep but no joy.

Leon looking for submissions from the bottom but instead Liddell passes into side control.

Liddell tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.

Leon pushes Liddell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Liddell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Leon gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.

Leon pushes Liddell off and gets back to his feet.
Liddell misses with a double jab.
An attempted straight right counter from Leon misses the target.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Buster Leon will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Liddell looks to land a combination but Leon avoids it well.
Leon dips to his left and cracks Liddell with an uppercut!
Leon feints a straight left to the body, then turns around with a flashy move and hits Liddells jaw with a dramatic spinning back fist!

Liddell gets the takedown into side control.
Leon pushes Liddell away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Liddell gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Buster Leon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Leon gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!
Liddell is trying to control here but Leon has managed to regain half guard.
Leon is trying to stand up here but Liddell is controlling him well.
Leon trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.

Liddell stalling away here and it's allowed Leon to slip out his trapped foot and regain full guard.
Liddell is looking to stand up but Leon won't let him.
Liddell lands a couple of elbows.
Leon wants to stand up but Liddell is controlling him.

Leon wriggles free and stands up.

Leon gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Liddell to score an easy takedown into full guard.

Liddell wants to control from the top but Leon keeps moving.
Leon has a closed guard, preventing Liddell from standing up.
Leon seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Liddell working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Leon's head.
Leon wants to stand up but Liddell is controlling him.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Leon decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.

Leon is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Liddell presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
Leon wants to break free but Liddell has control.

Liddell manages to break the clinch.

Liddell moves into range and clinches up with Leon.
A battle for position here, against the cage.

Liddell has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Leon regains guard immediately.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Leon wants to stand and escape but Liddell is having none of it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Leon has his feet on Liddell's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.

Liddell throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Leon was covering up waiting for the punch and Liddell finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Liddell is breathing heavily.
Leon is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.


Leon seems to be looking for submissions.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Buster Leon dominated that second round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.



Leon gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Leon scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Chuck Liddell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Liddell shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Liddell is working for a kimura but Leon is defending it quite comfortably.
Leon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Leon is staying active underneath Liddell, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Leon moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Leon wants to stand and escape but Liddell is having none of it.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Leon throws a head kick that misses.
Liddell blocks a head kick by Leon.

Liddell fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Leon to the ground. Liddell is now in Leon's guard.
Leon wants to stand up but Liddell is controlling him.
Leon can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Liddell controls the pace.
Liddell wants to control from the top but Leon keeps moving.
Leon manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Liddell manages to get himself to full guard.


That's three minutes gone in the round.
Leon's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Liddell has an omoplata and is looking to use it perhaps as a submission or perhaps to transition. Leon is in a bit of discomfort here, but he's managed to free himself and has dived into side control! That didn't work out too well for Liddell.
Liddell takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Liddell is pushing Leon's head away, looking to escape. Leon manages to hold on to the position though.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Leon working away.
Liddell tries to bench press Leon off him but Leon keeps the position.
Liddell is trying to buck Leon off.
Leon happy to just control the position for now.
Leon landing a few strikes.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Leon controls the position.
Chuck Liddell has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Buster Leon is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Leon's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Leon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
