Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alec Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benson Hedges (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jones kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Monster. Both fighter's entrance songs getting the crowd jumping here.

Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Benson Hedges!
The judges for this bout are John Kavanagh, Jonathan Paton and Dean Styles.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jones circles away from the clinch attempt.
Hedges throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Jones fails to land the takedown.
Jones tries to clinch up

and Hedges counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
Hedges prevents Jones from improving his position.

Jones actively working from the bottom here.
Hedges wants to stand up but Jones has a hold of him and won't allow it.
Hedges controlling the pace.
Hedges thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Jones's head.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Hedges throws a right hand that Jones ducks under and follows up with a left that Jones also avoids with ease.

Jones looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Jones decides to stand and escape the position.

and Hedges counters with a nice double leg into side control. Jones won't be happy with that.
Jones is breathing heavily.
Jones is trying to get back to half guard.
Hedges works a knee to the body and follows up with a nice elbow to the head.
You can see the frustration on Jones's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.

Jones explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Hedges lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Hedges throws a big shot that misses.
Hedges takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Jones fails in his attempt to clinch.
Hedges thows a left - swing and a miss!
Hedges takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Like a baseball bat into the meat of his leg there - nice leg kick by Jones.
Jones wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Jones cracks the inside of Hedges's front leg.
Hedges throws a big shot that misses.

Jones closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Jones lands in his opponent's guard.

Jones wants to control from the top but Hedges keeps moving.

Jones stands and throws Hedges's legs to the side, diving into side control.
Hedges gets back to half guard.
Hedges is looking to improve his position.
Hedges wants to get back to his feet.
Jones is figuring out what he wants to do next.
Jones is pressing down on Hedges's thigh, looking to free his foot. Hedges is holding on for now.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Jones with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Jones seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.

That was a close round but I would say that Alec Jones will probably get the nod.

Hedges tries to keep at a distance but Jones has taken the fight into the clinch.
Jones wants to break free but Hedges has control.

Hedges breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
Jones tries to close the distance and clinch but Hedges swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Hedges throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Jones's waist but Jones gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Hedges off to one side.
Jones shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Hedges but Hedges pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Good leg kick by Jones there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.

and Jones counters with a straight punch to the midsection.

Nice takedown defense from Hedges. No joy for Jones on that attempt.

and Hedges counters with a straight right hand.
Hedges tries for a takedown but Jones sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.

Jones shoots in and drives through. Hedges sprawls well.
Hedges will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Jones has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Hedges! Can he survive? No! He's out! Jones gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
