PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vladimir Parasenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and John Johnson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vladimir Parasenko!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, John Johnson!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Johnson bobs and weaves and unloads with a good uppercut.
Parasenko fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Parasenko looks for a takedown but Johnson sprawls well.
Parasenko tries to score a power double leg takedown but Johnson sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Parasenko somewhat.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vladimir Parasenko. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Johnson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Johnson throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Johnson bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Parasenko's head.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Johnson throws a body kick but he wasn't in range.
Johnson pivots, looking for a leg kick but Parasenko is out of range and Johnson settles back down.
Johnson bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.
A head kick misses from Johnson.
As Johnson tries to get set, Parasenko tries to push him back and clinch up but Johnson manages to avoid the attempt.
Parasenko misses with a takedown attempt - Johnson sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
We've been told by Parasenko's head coaches at Hammer and fickle that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
John Johnson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

Parasenko moves into the clinch successfully.

Parasenko breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Parasenko.
Parasenko lands a nice looking body shot.

Parasenko scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Parasenko is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Johnson tries to bench press Parasenko off him but Parasenko keeps the position.
Parasenko landing a few strikes.

A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Parasenko lands a decent elbow from side control.
Parasenko is looking to take a break and control but Johnson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee asks Parasenko politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Parasenko prefers to stall for the moment though.
Parasenko tries to advance to mount but Johnson denies him.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Johnson manages to get back to half guard.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Parasenko connects with a nice short shot to Johnson's temple.
Johnson wants to control but Parasenko is keeping busy.
Johnson is looking for a sweep. Parasenko is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Parasenko is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Parasenko seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The fighters circle momentarily. Johnson darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Johnson looks to throw a body kick

and Parasenko counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Johnson wants to control but Parasenko is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Johnson is trying to get back to full guard.
Parasenko seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.
Parasenko looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
Johnson is trying to control but can't.
Nice strikes from Parasenko there.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Vladimir Parasenko will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Parasenko tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Johnson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

Parasenko clinches with his opponent.
Johnson tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Parasenko stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
Johnson lands an uppercut.
Parasenko wants to take the fight to the mat but Johnson manages to get underhooks and keep the fight in the clinch.
Parasenko has Johnson pressed against the cage.
Johnson scores with an uppercut up the middle.

Johnson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Parasenko.
Parasenko fails to pull guard.
Parasenko is trying to drag Johnson to the mat but Johnson just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Johnson wants to stall.

Johnson has had enough of the clinch but Parasenko keeps him there for the moment.

Johnson on the defensive, avoiding the knees to the body.

Parasenko turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Parasenko knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Johnson on the ground.
Johnson gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard.
Still in half guard, Parasenko seems content to control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Parasenko is trying to control the action in half guard but Johnson is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Parasenko looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Johnson with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Parasenko not doing much here.
Johnson slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Parasenko is trying to tuck his arms in to keep them safe but Johnson has managed to isolate one of them and has got a loose triangle. Parasenko is looking to defend but Johnson has done well to lock his legs together - this could be big trouble for Parasenko! Johnson pulls down on the head and a little smile comes across his face - he knows he's got it. Yep, Parasenko taps out and this one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:55 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). John Johnson!
