Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Zadimus Delacroix (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jon Askren (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 19 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Jon Askren!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and William Gold.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Askren forces Delacroix back against the cage and clinches.
Delacroix misses with the head strike.
Askren blocks an uppercut.

Delacroix is fighting off a takedown attempt but Askren is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Delacroix to the mat. Delacroix regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
Delacroix pulls Askren in close to prevent any damage.
Delacroix is trying to keep Askren in close.
Askren seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Delacroix on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Delacroix tries to get out of the position.
Delacroix wants to stand up but Askren is controlling him.
Askren working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Delacroix is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Askren wants to pass the guard but Delacroix is keeping the position.

The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Askren stands up over Delacroix, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.

Delacroix wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Askren with a flurry of punches that miss.
Delacroix has been talking about how he's improved his wrestling in the run up to the fight so let's see if that's enough to sway the balance.
Delacroix has control of Askren's left arm, preventing Askren from doing any damage.
Askren wants to control from the top but Delacroix keeps moving.

Delacroix can't keep his opponent in guard - Askren advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Askren connects with a nice short shot to Delacroix's temple.
Delacroix is looking to control Askren's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Delacroix avoid being mounted?
Delacroix is looking to escape.

Askren working over Delacroix with some ground and pound. Delacroix looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Askren is keen to just control but Delacroix is a slippery customer.
Askren throwing shots but Delacroix is blocking nicely.
Delacroix is staying active underneath Askren, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Delacroix is bucking up trying to escape but Askren cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Askren has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Delacroix's face.

Delacroix is in a horrible position here. Askren smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.


Delacroix is rocked!
The referee warns Delacroix that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.
Oh Delacroix is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Askren lands a big shot to the head and Delacroix winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:52 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Strikes). Jon Askren! Jon Askren retains his welterweight title!
