Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Michel Calderon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shunte Woods (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Shunte Woods has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Michel Calderon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Shunte Woods!
The judges for this bout are Saam Ante, Nard Betker and Albert Achterberg.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Woods darts in and clinches Calderon up against the cage.

Woods jumps into guard, dragging Calderon to the mat.
Calderon stopping the sweep attempt from Woods.
Calderon postures up in Woods's guard and throws a big left but Woods blocks it.

Woods has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Calderon can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Calderon's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Woods wants to sweep but no luck.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Calderon throwing strikes but missing.
Calderon lands a couple of elbows.

Calderon gets to his feet - Woods follows without any prompting.

Woods is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Calderon could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Woods keeps the fight on the outside.

Calderon closes the distance and pushes Woods back into the cage.

Woods has dropped down and is working for a takedown. Calderon is trying to keep an underhook but Woods manages to get the takedown into half guard.
Calderon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Woods won't allow Calderon to sweep him here.

Calderon wants to control but Woods is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Woods really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Calderon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Calderon has his hands on Woods's head, controlling the position.
Woods has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Calderon is proving hard to escape from.

Calderon is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Woods defends well.

Calderon controls Woods momentarily but Woods frees himself.
Calderon is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Calderon bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Woods's guard.


Woods looking for subs off his back but Calderon has passed one foot through into half guard.
Woods is looking to improve his position.

Woods is looking to control Calderon's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Woods avoid being mounted?
Calderon prevents Woods from standing back up.

Calderon is trying to work for a kimura but Woods is defending well.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Calderon is looking for a kimura but Woods is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Calderon to get the leverage.

Calderon is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Calderon is trying to control but Woods passes into side control!

Woods is moving around in side control but his primary objective seems to be to maintain the position.
Michel Calderon overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Calderon takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.

Woods seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Calderon does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Woods seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Woods is trying to advance to mount but he's lost his balance and Calderon reverses the position - he's now on top in Woods's guard.

Calderon stands up from Woods's guard - Calderon perhaps looking for a knockout.

Woods breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Woods closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.

Woods stands up and we're back to a striking position.

Woods manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Calderon on his heels. He'll look to pass Calderon's guard now, I'm sure.

Calderon scrambles and gets back to his feet.

Woods has closed the distance and engaged Calderon in a clinch.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Shunte Woods will probably get the nod - 10:9.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Woods throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Calderon appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Woods misses with a body kick.
Calderon shoots in and drives through. Woods sprawls well.
Michel Calderon is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Woods closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Calderon did well to prevent Woods getting side control.

Calderon has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Woods is on him like a limpet, forcing Calderon back against the cage.

Shunte Woods seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Woods darts in and clinches Calderon up against the cage.

Woods pulls Calderon in close to his closed guard and prevents Calderon from doing any damage or advancing position.
Calderon would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Woods takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Calderon looks to move to half guard but instead Woods has passed into mount! Damn!
Calderon manages to regain half guard. Good work.
Calderon keeps control of the position for the meantime.
Woods looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Calderon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Woods stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Calderon tries a head kick but it misses.
Woods throws a fast counter high kick but Calderon manages to duck under it in time.

Woods closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Woods lands in his opponent's guard.

Calderon is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Woods is aware though and is defending well.
Woods is working Calderon over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Woods is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.

Woods decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

Woods rushes Calderon and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Calderon.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Woods has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Calderon uses from the top position.

Well Woods has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
