PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Charlie Wall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fredrick Blake (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Fredrick Blake will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Charlie Wall!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Fredrick Blake!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, James Ackerman and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Wall avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
As Blake looks to move away, Wall throws a big counter combo but Blake just gets out of the way.

Wall drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Blake wants to improve his position but instead Wall has moved into half guard.
Blake wants to improve his position but Wall is controlling well.
Wall controlling the pace.
Wall not landing any meaningful shots this time.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wall missing with some ground and pound from the half guard.

Wall postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Blake to stand up.
Wall shoots in but no luck this time.
Wall sets himself, and Blake steps forward looking for the clinch! Wall avoids it this time.

Blake throws a sloppy head kick and Wall moves out of range easily.

Blake closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Wall is looking to take this one to the mat.

Wall avoiding damage as Blake throws knees to the body.

Blake pulls guard.
Blake wants to sweep here but Wall controlling him for the moment.
Blake controls Wall momentarily but Wall frees himself.
Blake has a closed guard, preventing Wall from standing up.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Wall lands a couple of digs.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Charlie Wall will probably get the nod.
That's time! Wall's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


A head kick misses from Blake.
Wall feinted with a counter takedown.
Fredrick Blake seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blake fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Wall looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Wall lands a head kick. Blake smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Wall avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Wall throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blake's waist but Blake gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Wall off to one side.
Wall tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Blake swivels and escapes.

Blake closes the distance and clinches.
Blake prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Charlie Wall. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Blake has Wall pushed against the cage.

Blake has picked Wall up - he's going for a ride! Blake dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.

Wall manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Blake keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.

Wall gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
Wall connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blake is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Blake bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Wall's guard.


Blake stands and steps away. Wall gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Wall gets caught on his heels momentarily as he allows Blake to score an easy takedown into full guard.
Wall has control of Blake's left arm, preventing Blake from doing any damage.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
More hug and hope from Wall.

Wall wants to hit a switch here but Blake passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Wall there!

Wall tries to lock up and control but Blake gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Wall is looking for a sweep. Blake is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Blake is thwarting Wall's attempts to control the position.
Wall really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Wall trying to hold on to Blake's head to control him but Blake postures up.

Wall kicks Blake off and gets back to his feet.
Blake misses with the combination.
Wall scores with a head kick. Blake tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.

Wall gets caught flat footed, as Blake shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Wall manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Wall wants a takedown.

Wall's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Charlie Wall will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Blake on the wrong end of a kick to the body.
Horrible takedown attempt by Wall or perhaps it was just good defense by Blake, which made it look bad.

Blake must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Blake tries to close the distance and clinch but Wall swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.

Blake rushes Wall and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Wall turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
Wall throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.
Charlie Wall overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Wall tries to score with some ground and pound. Blake controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Wall wants to stand but Blake has his arm trapped.
Blake is looking to reverse the position.
Check out the look on Wall's face as he threw that strike - that's one determined fighter!

Blake throws his opponent off and manages to get back to his feet! Nicely done!

Blake tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Wall grinds an elbow into Blake's temple.
Wall scores with a couple of short elbows.
Wall lands a few punches from side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Wall decides to take the fight back to the feet.
Fredrick Blake has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Charlie Wall is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
Blake misses with a body kick.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Charlie Wall.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Wall, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
