PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Dante Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Anderson Ken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Marquez comes into the arena with Rey de la Selva blaring out of the sound system. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dante Marquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Anderson Ken!
The judges for this bout are Igor Prikhodko, Illya Tyunina and Fedor Mirinova.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ken shoots in but no luck this time.
Marquez throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ken.
Ken lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Ken cracks a nice hook into Marquez's ribs.

Marquez changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Ken looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Ken sneaks out the side door and pushes Marquez away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.
Marquez throws a lazy uppercut

and Ken counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ken.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Ken trying to control the position from guard on top but Marquez is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Ken stays in close to Marquez's body and controls the position.
Ken's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.
Ken throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Marquez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Ken is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

Marquez has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Ken off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Marquez throws Ken to one side and escapes!
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Ken dives in and grabs Marquez's left leg, looking for a takedown. Marquez pushes down on Ken's head and hops out.
Dante Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Ken.
Ken on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Marquez. Marquez obviously looking to wear him down.

Marquez closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Ken's guard.
Marquez postures up and lands a big shot to Ken's brow.

Marquez chips away with some ground and pound.
Marquez is looking to work some ground and pound but Ken has wrist control.
Ken wants to sweep here but Marquez controlling him for the moment.

Ken has managed to wall walk up one of the corner posts to get back to his feet. Marquez is pushing him up against the cage, looking to control the position.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Ken.

Ken breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Ken is defended easily by Marquez.
Marquez swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect.
Ken looks winded!
Marquez shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Ken but Ken pushes him off and we're back to square one.
We've been told by Marquez's head coaches at Cozad MMA St Petersburg that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Ken fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

Marquez shoots in for a takedown but Ken shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Ken avoids a punch combination nicely.
Marquez closes this distance looking for a takedown but Ken circles away.
A lazy left from Marquez finds it's target.

Marquez gets caught flat footed, as Ken shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Ken loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Ken's corner. There ya go! There ya go!

The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ken lands a nice short elbow.

Ken gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Ken fails with a takedown attempt.
Marquez misses with a takedown attempt - Ken sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Marquez throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

Ken gets a double leg takedown into Marquez's guard.

Marquez pushes Ken off and scrambles back to his feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Anderson Ken will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Ken changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Marquez tries to avoid it but Ken manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Marquez to the ground. Marquez escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Marquez fails with the takedown.
Ken throws out a counter right but Marquez avoids it with no problem.
Marquez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Ken avoids it really well and circles away.
Ken tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

Ken gets a double leg takedown into Marquez's guard.
Ken has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Anderson Ken has got the better of the ground game so far.
Marquez wants to sweep here but Ken controlling him for the moment.
Marquez keeping moving, preventing Ken from controlling successfully.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Marquez has momentary wrist control but Ken slips an elbow through the middle.
Ken controls from within his opponent's guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Ken misses with a takedown attempt - Marquez sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
It looked like Marquez was trying to counter with a body shot coming off that last attack from Ken.

Ken tries to sprawl but Marquez drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Ken is looking to control Marquez's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Ken avoid being mounted?

Ken will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.

Marquez decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Ken.
Dante Marquez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Anderson Ken.

Ken throws a right and a left that Marquez avoids nicely.
Marquez will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Ken wants to counter the offense by Marquez and move into the clinch position.
No joy there for Marquez, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Marquez gets caught napping as Ken dives in and scores a takedown. Marquez manages to retain guard.
Ken stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Marquez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Ken wants to control from the top but Marquez keeps moving.

Ken working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Marquez can't keep his opponent in guard - Ken advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Ken passes the guard and advances to mount!
Ken landing strikes, looking to finish!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Anderson Ken showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Ken throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Marquez's waist but Marquez gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Ken off to one side.
Marquez fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Ken rushes Marquez and presses him up against the cage.

Ken pulls guard.

Ken has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Marquez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Ken controls Marquez momentarily but Marquez frees himself.
Our spies down at at Cozad MMA St Petersburg inform us that Ken has really been working on his submissions in the buildup to this fight. Will it pay off?
Marquez wants to stand but Ken is controlling his posture from full guard.
Marquez postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Ken wriggles free and stands up.
Ken shoots for a double leg takedown but Marquez sprawls well. He's pushed Ken's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Ken unleashes a big counter combination but Marquez bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ken is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Marquez defends well.

Anderson Ken comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Ken winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
