PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Eusebio Medina (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Heath Hawk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eusebio Medina!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Heath Hawk!
The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Medina tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.

Hawk closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Medina quickly recovers to half guard.
Medina is looking to control Hawk's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Medina avoid being mounted?
Hawk content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
The fighters are battling for position here. Medina manages to regain full guard. Nice work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Hawk throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Medina works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Medina can't keep his opponent in guard - Hawk advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Hawk is trying to get back to his feet now but his leg is trapped.
Medina moves his hips nicely and gets into full guard.
Hawk is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Hawk wants to control from the top but Medina keeps moving.
Medina wants to sweep here but Hawk controlling him for the moment.
Medina could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Hawk stands and throws Medina's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The strikes coming from Hawk are missing the target in this wave of attacks.
Medina is trying to get back to half guard.
Hawk misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
Medina tries to bench press Hawk off him but Hawk keeps the position.
Hawk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Hawk thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Medina sneaks a leg under to get back to half guard.
Hawk content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Medina tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land.
Medina tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Hawk has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Hawk throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Medina because Hawk loaded up on that one.

Medina bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
Hawk is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Hawk seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Medina does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hawk seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Medina might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Medina is looking to improve his position.

Medina throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hawk's waist but Hawk gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Medina off to one side.

Medina closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.

Medina wants to hit a switch here but Hawk passes into full mount! Oh no, disaster for Medina there!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Hawk is trying to work for a kimura but Medina is defending well.
Hawk has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Hawk looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Medina is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hawk thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Hawk throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Medina is looking for a sweep. Hawk is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Medina works his way to full guard. Good work.
Medina wants to sweep here but Hawk controlling him for the moment.
Hawk trying to control the position from guard on top but Medina is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Hawk with a flurry of punches that miss.
Hawk wants to get up but he can't break Medina's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Medina tries to close the distance and clinch but Hawk swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Medina fails with a takedown attempt from distance.

Hawk dives in and scores a takedown into Medina's guard.
Hawk slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Hawk stands up and beckons Medina to his feet.
Medina sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Medina chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Hawk can pounce on him.

Hawk shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Medina's guard.
Hawk throws a big elbow that misses.
Medina preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Heath Hawk has got the better of the ground game so far.
Hawk won't allow Medina to sweep him here.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Hawk moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Hawk fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Medina sprawls well initially but Hawk persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Hawk not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Heath Hawk showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Back to the action! This is the final round!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Hawk.
Medina is looking to reverse the position.
Medina is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Hawk is one step ahead and moves to full mount!

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hawk with the ground and pound but Medina uses the opportunity to regain guard.
Medina lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Medina drops back, looking for a kneebar! Hawk looks panicked! The fighters roll across the mat, one looking to finish, one looking to escape. Hawk looks to have wriggled free... Yes, he's got his leg free and he's dived into side control! Good work there from Hawk!

Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Hawk trying to control the position but Medina is working away.
Hawk throws an elbow but Medina slips to the side and avoids it well.

Hawk has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Hawk lands with a slapping head kick.
Medina walks into a jab.

Hawk swats away the attempt to clinch by Medina.
Heath Hawk seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Medina is looking to take this fight into the clinch.

Hawk drives through with a takedown into Medina's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.

Hawk stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Medina closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Hawk did well to prevent Medina getting side control.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hawk is controlling Medina's position as best he can from this difficult position.

Hawk manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Medina tries to clinch up but Hawk circles away and keeps his distance.
Hawk lands a nice looking kick to the body. Medina takes a step back to recover.

Hawk feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Hawk is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Medina looking to hit a scissor sweep but Hawk is one step ahead there.
Hawk passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Heath Hawk comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I've got Hawk winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
