PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Klemens Czerwinski (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Thomas Buffel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Thomas Buffel told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Klemens Czerwinski!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Thomas Buffel!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Matti Vanhoillinen and Tarja Halkonen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Both fighters are only really looking to counter, so after a good 30 seconds of circling eachother endlessly, the referee has stepped in and told them both to be more aggressive.
Czerwinski fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Buffel slips a jab and a cross from Czerwinski.
Czerwinski throws a lazy head kick
and Buffel counters with a three punch combo that has Czerwinski backing up. Czerwinski nods at Buffel to acknowledge the strikes.

Buffel takes a swing at Czerwinski's ribcage but misses.
Buffel smiles there as he lands a nice right hand right on the button.
Czerwinski throws a right hand that Buffel ducks under and follows up with a left that Buffel also avoids with ease.
Despite the aggression on Buffel's face he doesn't fully commit to the counter.

As Buffel looks to move away, Czerwinski throws a big counter combo but Buffel just gets out of the way.

Buffel throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Buffel swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Czerwinski swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Buffel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Czerwinski is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Buffel dives into side control.

Czerwinski tries to buck Buffel off but Buffel is having none of it.
Buffel has knee on belly and moves into mount.
Buffel takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Buffel lands a couple of good shots and Czerwinski has given up his back, trying to escape the position!

Czerwinski is trying to get back to his feet but he's not managed it yet.
Buffel gets his hands free as Czerwinski looks to control.

Czerwinski manages to get to his feet, escaping the difficult position.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Buffel counters with a single leg into guard. Czerwinski didn't expect that.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

Czerwinski connects with a solid leg kick.
Buffel tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.

Buffel throws a head kick but Czerwinski moves out of range.
Buffel throws a sloppy head kick and Czerwinski moves out of range easily.
We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Buffel in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Czerwinski throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Buffel.
Buffel wants to counter with a clinch but Czerwinski pushes him away.

and Buffel counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.

Czerwinski pushes Buffel off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Czerwinski lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Buffel backs up against the cage.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

and Czerwinski counters with a one-two to the body.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

No joy there for Czerwinski, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
