PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Denny Burch (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gary Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Gary Silva was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 6 - 0, fighting out of London, Denny Burch!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Gary Silva!
The judges for this bout are James Glass, Colin Fotheringham and Paul Tew.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The referee asks Silva politely if he wouldn't mind getting on with it and actually doing something. Silva prefers to stall for the moment though.
Silva working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Burch tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Silva wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Silva is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Burch has escaped the position, nice work there.
Burch pushes Silva away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Silva gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Burch is trying to control Silva's posture but Silva avoids it.
Silva wants to control but Burch is keeping him busy.

Burch can't do much from the bottom here.

The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

Silva decides to stand up, so the ref orders Burch to his feet.
Burch lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Silva closes the distance and pushes Burch back into the cage.

Silva manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Burch wants to control from the top but Silva keeps moving.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Burch lands a couple of elbows.

Silva working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Burch doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Burch manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Silva is looking for a triangle but Burch pushes his legs off easily.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Silva is on top in guard.

Silva looking to sit in guard and control but Burch gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Silva holds on and takes a little breather.

Silva is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Burch presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Burch.

Silva jumps into guard, dragging Burch to the mat.
Burch throwing strikes but missing.
Burch is working Silva over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.

The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Burch postures up in Silva's guard and throws a big left but Silva blocks it.
Burch stands up over Silva, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gary Silva dominated that round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Burch drives through and clinches with Silva against the cage.
Burch stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.
Burch tries to pull guard but Silva holds him up against the cage and eventually Burch drops back down to his feet.

Silva is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Burch can't fight it off and eventually Silva manages to take the fight to the floor. Burch looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Burch manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Burch breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Silva throws a sloppy head kick

and Burch counters by moving into the clinch.
Burch tries to pull guard but Silva won't allow it.
A short right hand to the side of the head by Silva.

Burch connects with a nasty looking knee right to Silva's face.

Silva pulls guard effortlessly.
Silva is breathing heavily.
Silva wants to sweep here but Burch controlling him for the moment.
Silva is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Burch dives into side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Silva regains half guard, as Burch was trying to land strikes.
Nice strikes from Burch there.
Burch not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Silva wants to get back to his feet.
Burch working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Burch looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Silva with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Burch thows a huge punch but Silva dodges it nicely.

Burch lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Silva throws a series of punches but Burch moves out of range.

Silva feints and as Burch raises his hands in defense, Silva changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Burch throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Back to the action! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!


Silva stuffs the takedown.
Burch swats away the attempt to clinch by Silva.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Burch enables Silva to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Burch manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Silva throws an elbow that misses. Burch uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Silva's guard. Nice move by Burch!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Burch could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Silva tries to clinch up but Burch circles away and keeps his distance.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Silva decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Burch is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

And that's the end of the fight!
Gary Silva comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Silva has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
