The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Silva darts in and clinches Mccarthy up against the cage.
Mccarthy could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Silva scores with a shoulder strike.
Mccarthy tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silva smiles and moves away.
Mccarthy doesn't manage to clinch there - Silva circles away.

Mccarthy instigates a clinch.
Mccarthy drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Silva gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Silva is pressed up against the cage. Mccarthy has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Silva down to the mat. Silva avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.

Mccarthy wants to stand but Silva is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Mccarthy manages to wriggle out and sneak his way back up to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched up against the cage.
Mccarthy tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Mccarthy drops down looking for an ankle pick but Silva pulls his leg out and moves away.
Silva lands with a straight right. Mccarthy didn't see that one coming.

It looks like Virgil Mccarthy has been cut.
Mccarthy tries to close the distance and clinch up but Silva swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Silva swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made.

Silva looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Mccarthy is trying to stand up here but Silva is controlling him well.
Mccarthy manages to get to full guard.

Silva drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Mccarthy dives on top into guard.

Mccarthy prevents Silva from getting back to his feet.

Silva escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Mccarthy gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Mccarthy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Mccarthy decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Silva, up you get!

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Mccarthy is defended easily by Silva.

Mccarthy gets tackled into the cage by Silva. Silva maintains the clinch.
Silva pushes Mccarthy back against the cage and lands a hook to the side of the head.

Silva gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Mccarthy is holding on to half guard well.
Silva stops Mccarthy from getting back to his feet.

Mccarthy manages to escape and get back to his feet!
Mccarthy throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Mccarthy swings for the body but Silva moves out of range.

Silva moves into the clinch successfully.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Mccarthy is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mccarthy tries to pull guard but Silva forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Mccarthy is breathing heavily.

Silva manages to pull guard.
Mccarthy controls from within his opponent's guard.
Mccarthy postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.

Mccarthy shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Silva napping and manages to drive through into side control!
Mccarthy cracks Silva with a big elbow.

Mccarthy wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Silva, who protects the arm well.
You can see the frustration on Silva's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Mccarthy controls the position.

Silva avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Mccarthy.

Mccarthy decides to stand back up.

Mccarthy tries to land a body kick
and Silva counters with a stiff right hand.

Silva closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Silva prevents a takedown attempt there.
Silva displaying some good clinch control by pressing Mccarthy up against the cage.
Mccarthy has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Silva is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mccarthy changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Silva fights it off and pushes away nicely.

and Silva counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Mccarthy goes for a takedown attempt but Silva pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Silva lands with a good body shot.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Silva pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Silva ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Mccarthy moves away.

Mccarthy throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
As Mccarthy backs off Silva throws a huge counter combo but Mccarthy manages to avoid it all.
Silva works over Mccarthy's head and body with a nice combination.

Mccarthy is rocked!
Mccarthy closes the distance but Silva moves to the side
and Silva counters with a huge overhand right that connects right on the temple, sending him crumpling, face first to the floor! This one is all over! What a knockout!
