The judges for this bout are Kenichi Hosakawa, Hirohito Nitta and Tatsuya Matsuyama.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Lie misses with a double jab
and Kupa counters with a series of strikes. Lie will be more careful next time no doubt.
Lie throws a right hand that Kupa ducks under and follows up with a left that Kupa also avoids with ease.

Kupa looks like he wanted to counter with a high kick but didn't throw it.
Lie will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Lie has not gone for a single takedown so far in this fight, which seems like a very strange tactic when you consider that he has the superior wrestling and BJJ.

Lie wants to get back to striking at distance but Kupa won't allow it.
Kupa tries to pull guard but Lie won't allow it.
Kupa is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Mike Lie has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Puka Kupa.
