The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noons tries a head kick but it misses.
No joy there for Smith, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Smith really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Noons shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Noons was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Smith wants to try and get back to his feet.
Noons tries to control but Smith wriggling away.
Noons controlling the pace for now.
Noons trying to control but Smith is having none of it.

You get the feeling that Smith really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Noons sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Smith tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Smith knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Noons on the ground.
Noons is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Smith can't stay in a position like this for much longer.

Noons swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Smith is now in Noons's guard. A big mistake from Noons there, giving up the dominant position!
Noons looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Smith puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Noons wants to control but Smith passes into side.

Smith decides to stand back up.
Smith ducks under a wild hook from Noons.

Noons closes the distance and clinches.
Smith has had enough of the clinch but Noons keeps him there for the moment.
Noons is looking to break free of the clinch but Smith has double underhooks.

Smith pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Smith tries to bum rush Noons with a series of wild strikes but Noons uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smith throws a nice looking combination but Noons bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Smith misses with a jab, cross combination.
Smith sizes up Noons with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.

Smith throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Noons.

Noons shoots in and bounces Smith off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.

Noons wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Noons chips away with some ground and pound.
Noons wants to pass the guard but Smith is keeping the position.

Noons drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Smith wants to stand up but Noons is controlling him.
Noons thows a big elbow that misses.
Smith looking to hit a scissor sweep but Noons is one step ahead there.
Smith is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Noons is controlling him.
Noons has decided he wants to stand but the closed guard of Smith is proving hard to escape from.
Noons wants to control from the top but Smith keeps moving.

Noons is breathing heavily.
Smith wants to get back to his feet but Noons is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Smith stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
No luck for Noons with that takedown attempt.
Noons fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Noons dodges the punch combination from Smith.

Noons fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith scores with a three punch combo!
Smith moves into range and throws a lovely three punch combination.
Smith lands a jab to the nose.
Noons closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Noons pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Roby Smith has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of JD Noons.
Smith swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Smith misses with a double jab.
Smith thuds his right hand into Noons's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

A jab from Smith does it's job there.
Smith scores with a hook.
Noons tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion.
Smith lands a nice shot that snaps Noons's head back.
Noons looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Smith is fending him off so far but Noons persists. Nope, Smith circles away and we're back to standing.
Smith closes the distance and lands a one-two.

Noons is rocked!
Smith lands with a big left! Noons is wobbled badly! Smith comes in with a flurry of punches and drops Noons to the floor. The ref jumps in to save him from unneccessary punishment.
