PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Daniel Maia (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vitor Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Daniel Maia has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Daniel Maia seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Daniel Maia!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Vitor Gracie!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Maia looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.

Gracie with the active half guard here but Maia passes nicely into side control.
Gracie is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Maia off and has taken his back!
You can see the frustration on Maia's face… He knows he is in trouble unless he improves his position sooner rather than later.

Maia rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.

Maia is defending against the submission attempts here by Gracie.

Gracie is trying to work for a kimura. He's got his hands clasped together - this could be trouble! No, Maia has managed to free his arm - good work.
Maia wants to control but Gracie is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Maia is pressing down on Gracie's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Gracie drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Gracie jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Gracie postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Maia is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Gracie, into his guard.

Maia gets to his feet - Gracie follows without any prompting.
Maia loads up on a big right hand but Gracie slips the punch.

and Maia counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gracie's guard now.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Maia controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Maia looking to pass the guard.

Gracie bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Maia's guard.

Gracie is holding a leg here, probably looking for an ankle lock - he drops back and goes for it! Maia is in trouble! Is it all over??? No! Maia has escaped and now he's on top!
Gracie wants to sweep but no luck.
Maia looking to pass the guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Gracie looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Maia has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Gracie escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maia gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Maia trying to control but Gracie is working from the bottom.

Gracie is looking for a triangle but Maia pushes his legs off easily.

Maia is working hard here to advance position.

Gracie is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Gracie keeping full guard, as Maia tries to pass.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Maia avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Maia sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Gracie's guard.
Maia keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Gracie tries to roll over but Maia keeps him under control.
Maia trying to pass the guard but Gracie defending well.
Gracie is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Maia's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Maia's back!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Daniel Maia dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.

and Maia counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Gracie's guard now.

Gracie has managed to work for a loose triangle. I think Maia should be able to defend this one pretty easily though. Oh, Gracie has tightened it up now! Maia should have reacted faster there - he's in big trouble and yes, he's tapped out! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:27 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Vitor Gracie!
