PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Stephen Wibowo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Albert Larkin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Albert Larkin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Stephen Wibowo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Albert Larkin!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Bart Greer and Sandra Marshall.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Larkin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Wibowo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Wibowo seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Larkin is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Wibowo stays in close to Larkin's body and controls the position.
Larkin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Wibowo slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Larkin trying to keep a closed guard but Wibowo is proving a slippery customer.
Wibowo lands a couple of elbows.
Wibowo stopping the sweep attempt from Larkin.
Wibowo engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Wibowo's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Wibowo is pushing down on Larkin's leg trying to pass to half guard. Larkin is fighting to maintain full guard but Wibowo has managed to sneak the leg through.
Larkin is refusing to be controlled, as Wibowo sits in half guard.

Wibowo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Larkin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wibowo.

Wibowo takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Wibowo wants to take a breather but Larkin is having none of it.
Larkin tries to get to full guard but Wibowo has control of the leg.
Still in half guard, Wibowo seems content to control.
Wibowo landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent.
Wibowo is trying to control the action in half guard but Larkin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Wibowo is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Larkin sees it coming and defends easily.

Wibowo is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Larkin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Wibowo.
Larkin really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Wibowo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Wibowo looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Larkin with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Wibowo drops an elbow to the side of Larkin's head.
Wibowo slips a nice elbow through Larkin's hands, connecting with Larkin's forehead.
Nice strikes from Wibowo there.
Wibowo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Larkin is trying to control but can't.
Well, if Wibowo is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.

Wibowo wants to pass the guard but Larkin is defending well.
Wibowo passes into side control, despite Larkin's attempt to control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Wibowo takes one on the button.

Wibowo closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Larkin has hold of Wibowo's hands but Wibowo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Wibowo prevents Larkin from improving his position.
Wibowo working the head and body with strikes.
Larkin is looking to improve his position.
Wibowo looks to score some points with some ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Wibowo looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

Wibowo seems to be looking for submissions.
Larkin tries to kick Wibowo off but Wibowo keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Wibowo is thwarting Larkin's attempts to control the position.
Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Wibowo in particular looking to stall.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Wibowo connects with a nice short shot to Larkin's temple.
Larkin has hold of Wibowo's hands but Wibowo slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Larkin is looking to control Wibowo's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Larkin avoid being mounted?

Wibowo maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Larkin could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Wibowo has cracked it and Larkin is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Wibowo!
