The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Penn looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
champ shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Penn as he jumps to the side.
champ wants to clinch up but Penn keeps it at a distance.
champ throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Penn's waist but Penn gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing champ off to one side.
Penn moving in and out of range nicely, whilst landing the scoring shot.

It looks like the champ has been cut.
champ shoots in and drives through. Penn sprawls well.
BJ Penn has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of the champ.

champ ducks straight into an uppercut from Penn and tumbles to the canvas! It’s a flash knockdown though - champ maanges to regain guard straight away.

champ looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! Penn has picked champ up and slammed him! champ can't keep hold of the triangle and Penn manages to pass to side control!

champ is trying desperately to land a takedown but Penn is having absolutely none of it. This is turning into a bit of a nightmare for champ.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
A decent looking cross lands there for Penn.
Penn cracks champ with a nasty uppercut that draws ooohs from the crowd and sends champ tumbling backwards onto the mat. He tries to recover but Penn pounces and lands a hail of unanswered strikes that forces the referee to step in to end the fight! champ is not happy but he gave the referee no choice!
