Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ron Whitley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Carlos Marquez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Carlos Marquez will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Whitley gets caught napping as Marquez dives in and scores a takedown. Whitley manages to retain guard.
Whitley really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Marquez pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Whitley is keeping the position for now.
Marquez is still trying to improve position.
Marquez controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Marquez stopping the sweep attempt from Whitley.
Whitley trying to punch from his back but it's not doing any damage.
Marquez trying to control the position from guard on top but Whitley is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Marquez won't allow Whitley to get back to his feet.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Marquez passes Whitley's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Whitley is trying to stand.

Whitley has one foot on Marquez's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Marquez shoots in looking for a takedown but Whitley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Marquez's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Whitley.

Whitley works over Marquez's head and body with a nice combination.
Marquez is trying hard to land a takedown here. Whitley sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Marquez tries to sprawl but Whitley drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Whitley takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Whitley thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.
Whitley is nestled in close to Marquez, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Marquez is looking to control Whitley's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Marquez avoid being mounted?

Whitley looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Marquez makes some distance and scrambles quickly back to his feet. Nice work!

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Marquez closes the distance and clinches.
Whitley fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Marquez jumps into guard, dragging Whitley to the mat.
Whitley connects with a couple of short punches.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Whitley postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Marquez bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Whitley's guard.

Marquez stops Whitley from standing up.

Marquez works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Whitley gets full guard.
Whitley has momentary wrist control but Marquez slips an elbow through the middle.
Marquez in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Whitley throws some sloppy strikes off his back.
Marquez advances position into side control!
Marquez scores with punches from side control.
Whitley tries to escape but Marquez is in control.
Whitley is trying to improve his position.
Whitley wants to get back to his feet but Marquez drags him back down.

Marquez has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.

Marquez moves into the clinch.

Marquez drags the fight down to the ground.
Marquez is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Whitley is sitting in close to Marquez's body. Marquez has gone for a guillotine from the bottom. Oh damn, that looks pretty tight! Whitley is panicking - it looks like this one could be all over! Yes, Whitley is tapping! That was a very nice submission by Marquez.
