PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Patrick Mcdaniel (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Juan Sancristo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Juan Sancristo will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Patrick Mcdaniel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Juan Sancristo!
The judges for this bout are Micheangelo Fripello, Paul Gruel and Ryoma Takatsuka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sancristo changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Mcdaniel tries to avoid it but Sancristo manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Mcdaniel to the ground. Mcdaniel escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Mcdaniel displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Sancristo.

Patrick Mcdaniel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Juan Sancristo.
Sancristo has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Mcdaniel is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.
Mcdaniel lands a good knee to the midsection. Sancristo won't want to take too many of those.

Mcdaniel is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Sancristo can't fight it off and eventually Mcdaniel manages to take the fight to the floor. Sancristo looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Mcdaniel really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Mcdaniel is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Sancristo looks for a takedown but Mcdaniel sprawls well.

and Mcdaniel holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Mcdaniel pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Mcdaniel changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sancristo looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mcdaniel just content to control the position.

The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Sancristo fails with a takedown attempt.
Mcdaniel throws a lazy head kick
and Sancristo counters with a three punch combo that has Mcdaniel backing up. Mcdaniel nods at Sancristo to acknowledge the strikes.
Mcdaniel feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to Sancristo's calf.

and Mcdaniel counters with a nice low kick that buckles Sancristo's knee momentarily.
Sancristo looks winded!
Sancristo shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Mcdaniel but Mcdaniel pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Mcdaniel seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Sancristo shoots for a takedown but Mcdaniel saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Mcdaniel moves into the clinch successfully.

Mcdaniel breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Mcdaniel drives through and clinches with Sancristo against the cage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.



Sancristo gets caught flat footed, as Mcdaniel shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Mcdaniel slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
Mcdaniel is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Sancristo can do to turn this around?

Sancristo has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Mcdaniel off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Mcdaniel lands with a kick to the temple. Sancristo shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"

Mcdaniel shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Sancristo manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Mcdaniel seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
Sancristo wants to stand and escape but Mcdaniel is having none of it.

Sancristo is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.

Mcdaniel seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Sancristo for as long as he can get away with.
