PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Coy Grant (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vinny Falcino (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Coy Grant!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Vinny Falcino!
The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, Reed Andrews and Joseph Jones.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Falcino misses with a takedown
and Grant counters with a series of strikes. Falcino will be more careful next time no doubt.
Falcino shoots in looking for a takedown but Grant manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Falcino's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Falcino lands with an overhand left.
Falcino changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Grant tries to avoid it but Falcino manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Grant to the ground. Grant escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Grant is looking to counter the offense by Falcino and move into the clinch.
Coy Grant has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Vinny Falcino.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Grant gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Falcino pushes Grant off and scrambles back to his feet.
Vinny Falcino seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.

Grant is looking for a counter combo.

Falcino rushes Grant and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Grant jumps guard.
Grant controlling the position.
Falcino looking to sit in guard and control but Grant gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Grant postures up in Falcino's guard and throws a big left but Falcino blocks it.
Grant would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Grant is working Falcino over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes.
Falcino is trying to control the position from the bottom.
Grant is looking to stand up but Falcino won't let him.
Falcino is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Falcino looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.

Falcino is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Grant is aware though and is defending well.
Grant controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Grant makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Grant thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Falcino is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Grant tries to stand but Falcino is controlling from the bottom.

Grant drops back looking for a leg! Falcino is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Falcino manages to kick Grant off! Grant jumps back into Falcino's guard.

Grant is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Grant tries to stand but Falcino is controlling from the bottom.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Falcino shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Grant pinned against the cage. Grant gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

and Grant counters with a three punch combo that has Falcino backing up. Falcino nods at Grant to acknowledge the strikes.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Grant stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Grant wants it to stay on the feet.
Grant throws a big counter combination but Falcino scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.

Grant decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.

Falcino has one foot on Grant's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Grant rushes Falcino and presses him up against the cage.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Grant is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Falcino gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Grant tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Falcino just stands there and leans against the cage.
Falcino is trying to slow down the pace in the clinch, to catch his breath.

Falcino is persisting with his attempts to control the action in the clinch, rather than do any real damage.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coy Grant dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

and Grant counters with a left and a right that stings Falcino.
Falcino throws a combination that misses

and Grant counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.

Grant is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Falcino sees it coming and defends easily.
Grant with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

Grant gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Coy Grant is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Falcino bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Falcino thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Vinny Falcino has got the better of the ground game so far.
Falcino is breathing heavily.
Grant wings away with a couple of strikes but they don't land.

Grant manages to work his way to half guard, despite Falcino's best efforts.
Grant has his hands clasped together around Falcino's back. He's all about the action.
Grant won't allow Falcino to pass to mount.
Grant wants to get back to full guard.
Grant manages to get to full guard.
Grant looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Falcino trying to control the position from guard on top but Grant is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

Falcino has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Grant is working away from the top position though.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Grant thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Falcino's head.

Grant drops back looking for a leg! Falcino is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Falcino manages to kick Grant off! Grant jumps back into Falcino's guard.
Falcino trying to strike from the bottom but really, it's not the best position to be doing that from!
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Grant landing with the ground and pound.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Coy Grant dominated that second round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!



Falcino gets caught napping as Grant dives in and scores a takedown. Falcino manages to retain guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Falcino is on top in guard.

Grant is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Grant is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Falcino can do to turn this around?
Falcino lands a couple of decent looking shots.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Grant holds on and takes a little breather.

Falcino looking to try and escape his hips here, looking for a submission. It looks like he's going for a triangle but Grant is defending well. Falcino quickly switches to an armbar and extends the arm! Grant has no choice but to tap, to a very quick submission! Wow, that was lightning fast! Falcino celebrates on the cage, with the crowd.
