PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Harry Panchal (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Greg Hoseman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Greg Hoseman will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Harry Panchal!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Greg Hoseman!
The judges for this bout are Josh West, Jeff Smith and Colin Fray.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Panchal is looking to clinch but Hoseman is avoiding it.
Hoseman lands a jab followed by a nice looking cross.
Panchal could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Panchal throws a jab but it's blocked by Hoseman.
Greg Hoseman seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Panchal shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Hoseman is trying to defend but Panchal finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Panchal is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Hoseman defends it well.
Panchal trying to control the pace.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Panchal thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Hoseman's head.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Panchal throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Well, if Panchal is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Panchal tries to stand but can't do so whilst Hoseman controls his leg.

Panchal looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Hoseman looks like he's trying to stand up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Panchal not landing any meaningful shots this time.
Panchal throwing shots but Hoseman is blocking nicely.
Panchal content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.
Panchal is nestled in close to Hoseman, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoseman tries to get to full guard but Panchal has control of the leg.
Hoseman is trying to stand up here but Panchal is controlling him well.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Hoseman feints a jab promting Panchal to slip. Hoseman then demonstrates his capabilities by jabbing again. Panchal slips again and ducks right into an uppercut.

Hoseman closes the distance and pushes Panchal back into the cage.

Hoseman lands a nice trip takedown into half guard.
Hoseman winds up and cracks Panchal with a swinging punch to the side of the head.
Hoseman really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Panchal. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Panchal wants to get back to his feet.
Hoseman prevents Panchal from improving his position.
Panchal is working hard here to advance position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Hoseman is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Panchal striking from the bottom.
Panchal gets back to full guard.
Panchal pulls Hoseman in to control the position.
Hoseman prevents Panchal from getting back to his feet.
Hoseman wants to pass the guard but Panchal is keeping the position.
Panchal bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Hoseman's guard.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Panchal throwing strikes from guard but Hoseman blocks nicely.
Hoseman has momentary wrist control but Panchal slips an elbow through the middle.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Greg Hoseman will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Panchal is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
A countering left hand to the body from Hoseman misses.
Panchal has his takedown stuffed
and Hoseman counters with a left and a right that stings Panchal.

Panchal gets a takedown into half guard.
Hoseman pushes Panchal off but Panchal dives into side control.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hoseman can do anything to dispel that myth.

Panchal working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Panchal in side control, just content to control the action for now.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Panchal working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.
Panchal controls the position.

Panchal tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Hoseman tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Panchal wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
Panchal throws a strike aimed at the side of Hoseman's head but Hoseman avoids it well.
Hoseman defending against the ground and pound.
Panchal wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hoseman keeps working.
Panchal tries to advance to mount but Hoseman denies him.
Hoseman is looking for a sweep.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Hoseman can't do much from the bottom here.
Panchal wants to stand but Hoseman has his arm trapped.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Harry Panchal overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Panchal has hold of Hoseman's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Hoseman tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Panchal cranks the arm and Hoseman screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Hoseman, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:43 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Harry Panchal!
