Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Danial Whitney!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Robert Palya!
The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whitney keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Palya closes the distance and pushes Whitney back into the cage.

Whitney manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Whitney trying to keep a closed guard but Palya is proving a slippery customer.
Palya controlling from the top position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Palya is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Palya drops back looking for a leg! Whitney is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Whitney manages to kick Palya off! Palya jumps back into Whitney's guard.
Palya's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Palya lands a couple of elbows.
Palya sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Whitney keeping moving, preventing Palya from controlling successfully.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Palya trying to stand up but can't free himself from Whitney's guard.

Palya is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.
Palya works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Whitney wants to control but Palya is keeping busy.
Palya is taking a breather. Whitney says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

Palya is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Whitney is just riding it out for now. Palya eventually gives up the hold.

Palya is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Palya seems to have lost interest with the ground game and is thinking about standing back up.

Palya has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Whitney defend it? Palya steps over the head and cranks it - Whitney is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Palya!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Robert Palya!
