PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Noe Gates (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Johny Chin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Johny Chin will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Noe Gates!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johny Chin!
The judges for this bout are Columbo Gatti, Alyssa Summers and Eddie Farnsworth.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gates scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Chin looks really tired already! That doesn't bode well for a good, competitive fight!

Gates working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Chin avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Gates.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gates tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Gates has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Chin tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Gates presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

Gates will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Chin defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gates.
Gates lands a big elbow.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Gates cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gates lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.

Gates working for a guillotine from mount but Chin is in no mood to give up.
Chin looks more muscular than last time we saw him. He must have been on the weights.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Gates lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.

Gates is working on an americana here. Ooh, that looks pretty nasty! Nope, Chin has managed to escape the submission attempt.
Chin is in a horrible position here. Gates smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.

Gates has control of Chin's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Chin regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Chin is in all sorts of trouble here.
Gates with a couple of short strikes.
Chin tries to improve his position but instead Gates has taken his back!

Gates is remaining active here, looking for the choke. The more discerning members of the crowd will appreciate his efforts.

Gates is persistently looking for the submission but Chin is defending it well.

Gates shoots in and bounces Chin off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Chin wants to sweep here but Gates controlling him for the moment.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Gates accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Chin is breathing heavily.

Gates working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.

Gates gets to his feet. Chin looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Gates drives through and clinches with Chin against the cage.
Gates really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gates digs a right hand into Chin's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Chin's gas tank.

A nice left hand lands by Gates.
Gates creates a bit of space for himself and sneaks an elbow through Chin's defenses.
Gates lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.

Gates breaks the clinch.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Chin avoiding damage as Gates throws knees to the body.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Gates lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Chin or not.
Gates misses with a body punch.
A short left from Gates.
Gates is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Chin can do to turn this around?

Gates breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johny Chin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Gates shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
Chin is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Gates dives into side control.


Gates has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Gates checks a low kick from Chin.

Gates closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Chin to the mat! Chin manages to get full guard.
Chin is wriggling around but Gates manages to pass to half guard.

Gates thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Chin's head.
Gates working over Chin with some ground and pound. Chin looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.

Gates is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Chin doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Gates.
Noe Gates overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Gates looks to score some points with some ground and pound.

Chin trying to get back to full guard but Gates takes advantage of the position and moves to full mount!

Gates is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Chin to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Chin shrugs it off.

Gates has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Chin's face.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!



Gates gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Chin has had enough of the clinch but Gates keeps him there for the moment.
Gates doesn't land with the attempted body shot.
Gates stays in close to his opponent and throws a right hand to the body.
Chin blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Gates misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Chin.

Gates breaks the clinch.

Gates changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Chin looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Chin wants to improve his position, back to half guard but Gates has ideas of his own. He's got hold of Chin's far side arm and it looks like he's got an Americana. Ohh! Ohhhh! OOOOOOOOOH! A human being's arm is not meant to bend like that! Chin is tapping like a morse code operator on the Titanic! SOS SOS! He's out of here! Great win for Gates!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:56 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Americana). Noe Gates!
