Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between German Valdez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dante Gael Roman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 19 - 35 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, German Valdez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 16 - 20 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Dante Gael Roman!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roman fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Valdez manages to avoid it.
Valdez feinted with a counter takedown.

Valdez fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Roman sprawls well initially but Valdez persists and gets the takedown into half guard.
Roman is staying active underneath Valdez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Roman wants to improve his position but Valdez is controlling well.

Valdez is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Roman defends it well.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roman tries to roll over but Valdez keeps him under control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Roman can do anything to dispel that myth.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Valdez sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Roman's guard.

Valdez is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Valdez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Valdez is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Roman is just riding it out for now. Valdez eventually gives up the hold.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Roman had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Valdez defends it easily.
Valdez stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roman swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roman is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Roman gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Valdez trying to control the position from guard on top but Roman is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

German Valdez overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Valdez gets tackled into the cage by Roman. Roman maintains the clinch.

Valdez is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Roman can't fight it off and eventually Valdez manages to take the fight to the floor. Roman looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Roman has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Valdez can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

Roman got a little sloppy there for a moment and Valdez has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Roman has managed to get both his arms back between Valdez's legs - danger averted.

Roman isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Valdez stacks Roman on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Valdez!

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Valdez is looking to work his way around to Roman's back. He needs to be careful though, as he's in danger of losing this dominant position.

Roman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
