PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trey Brown (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Justin Hall (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Justin Hall told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 16 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Trey Brown!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 12 - 6 - 0, fighting out of New York, Justin Hall!
The judges for this bout are Patrick Alders, Paul Aken and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brown shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.
Brown shoots and misses
and Hall counters with a right hand to the body.

Brown drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Brown trying to control the position but Hall is working away.
Hall is looking for a sweep.
Sloppy strikes there by Brown.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Hall regains half guard, as Brown was trying to land strikes.
Hall manages to get to full guard.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Brown throws a half hearted mid kick.

Brown lands a front kick.
Hall throws a hook to the side of Brown's head but Brown sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Hall takes a body punch that cleary hurt but he's trying not to show any weakness.
Hall fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
Brown uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Hall has time to react.
Hall throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Brown connects with a leg kick. Hall looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Hall lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
Brown dodges the punch combination from Hall.
Hall looks to throw the jab but Brown is out of range.
Brown lunges at Hall with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Hall's hand.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown tests Hall's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Hall throws a hook but Brown blocks it.

Brown shoots in and gets a takedown into Hall's guard.

Brown cracks Hall with a solid left hand.
Hall preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.

Brown throws the left hand but Hall avoids the punch easily.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Hall.

Hall scores with a nice strike.
Hall fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Brown is out of range.
Brown dances in quickly and lands a nice inside leg kick on Hall. That did some damage!
Trey Brown seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Brown looks to score with a jab to the body but Hall is just out of range.
Brown throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Hall.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Hall counters with a single leg into guard. Brown didn't expect that.

Brown working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Hall doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Hall manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Brown has control of Hall's left arm, preventing Hall from doing any damage.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Brown looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Hall puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Brown is not content to let Hall control the position.

Brown is concentrating on defense, preventing Hall from advancing position.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Brown.
Brown connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son.
Brown swings for the body but Hall moves out of range.

A jab from Brown misses.
Hall fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Brown.
Hall misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Brown.
Brown stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Hall avoids a kick to the body.
Nice body kick there by Brown.
Brown throws a solid leg kick but Hall takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Brown.
Brown steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Hall.
Brown scores with a leg kick.
Brown throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Hall lands a big head kick that sends Brown tumbling to the mat! Hall takes a step backwards and waves Brown back to his feet - he wants the finish!


Brown is rocked!


It looks like Trey Brown has been cut.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Brown will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.
And Hall tries to counter it with a takedown but Brown pushes his down on his head and steps out.
Brown catches Hall with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Brown tries a head kick but it misses.

Hall avoids the body shot from Brown.
Hall blocks a head kick by Brown.
An inside leg kick from Hall misses.
Hall keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Oh Brown is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Brown connects with a solid leg kick.
Brown is really dominating this fight. Is there anything that Hall can do to turn this around?

and Hall counters with a good low kick that Brown was not able to check.
Brown seems to have got his legs back now.
Brown takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Hall moves out of range of the strikes.
Hall throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Brown sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Hall blocks a leg kick.
Brown has been working on his balance at Hell's Balls NY Hellcademy, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Hall.
Brown throws a big shot that misses.
Trey Brown is winning the standup battle so far.
Hall turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Hall darts in looking for a takedown but Brown gets double underhooks and turns Hall into the ropes.
Hall pulls out of a head kick attempt.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close second round but Justin Hall will probably get the nod - 10:9.
The cut man is working on Trey Brown's cut.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Hall looks for the body kick but Brown saw that one coming.
Brown scores with a decent looking hook.
Hall on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.
Hall takes a big uppercut there. He seems a bit wobbly but no, he's OK.
Brown sizes up Hall with a pawing jab and scores with a straight right down the middle.
A lazy left from Brown finds it's target.
Brown throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Hall stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
The crowd cheers as Brown lands an impressive looking overhand right. Hall doesn't seem phased though.
Brown lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Brown looks for the body kick but Hall saw that one coming.
Hall's leg has a nasty welt from taking a succession of leg kicks. That must be slowing him down.
Hall misses with a double jab.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Good shot there by Hall.
Brown misses with a low kick as Hall jumps back.
Brown stumbles momentarily as he takes a strong leg kick from Hall.

Hall walks into a left hand.
Brown lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Brown misses with the body kick
enabling Hall to counter with a crisp jab.
No joy there for Brown, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Hall tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Brown connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Brown tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Hall throws a looping overhand right but Brown ducks down to avoid it.

and Hall counters with a nice uppercut.
Hall misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Brown bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Hall manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!
Brown makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Brown.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hall lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.
Hall stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Brown swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Brown wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Brown controls Hall momentarily but Hall frees himself.
Brown is controlling Hall's posture.

Hall working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Brown has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Brown is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

Hall throwing shots but Brown is blocking nicely.
Brown tries to regain full guard. Instead though, Hall has advanced to mount. Uh oh.
Brown is trying desperately to improve position.

Trey Brown showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Brown has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
