PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Muranda Kibawa (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Simon Simonsen (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have solid standup skills and neither is particularly fantastic on the ground, so let's hope for a nice standup war!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Muranda Kibawa!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Simon Simonsen!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Paulsen Ambrosius and Nard Betker.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simonsen misses with a wild body shot.
Kibawa shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Simonsen throws a nice inside leg kick.
Simonsen pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Kibawa back to the cage. Simonsen follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.
Kibawa looks for a takedown but Simonsen sprawls well.
Simonsen throws a right high kick that is partially blocked by Kibawa.
Simonsen lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Kibawa throws a series of punches but Simonsen moves out of range.
Kibawa fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Muranda Kibawa. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Simonsen lands a head shot.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Simonsen misses with the combination.

Kibawa darts in and clinches Simonsen up against the cage.

Kibawa breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

Kibawa has managed to clinch.
Simonsen tries to break free but Kibawa pushes him back against the cage.
The referee is keeping an eye on Kibawa - much more stalling and he will separate the fighters.
Kibawa is trying to drag Simonsen to the mat but Simonsen just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.

Kibawa breaks the clinch.

Kibawa rushes Simonsen and presses him up against the cage.
Simonsen jumps guard but Kibawa turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Simonsen tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

Kibawa decides to pull guard.
Simonsen trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Kibawa manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Simonsen can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Kibawa controls the pace.
Simonsen is trying to hold Kibawa in close to prevent damage but Kibawa has managed to pass into half guard.
Simonsen tries to kick Kibawa off but Kibawa keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Simonsen defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Kibawa.
Kibawa controlling the pace for now.

Kibawa looking to secure an arm triangle but Simonsen defends it well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Simonsen is wriggling around trying to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Muranda Kibawa will probably get the nod.
That's time! Kibawa's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Simonsen gets underhooks to prevent Kibawa's takedown attempt.
Simonsen wants to strike at distance but he can't break free of the clinch.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kibawa tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Simonsen just stands there and leans against the cage.
Simonsen tries to break the clinch but Kibawa is controlling the position.
Simonsen is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Kibawa gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

Simonsen is looking for a takedown.
Kibawa has Simonsen pressed against the cage, preventing Simonsen from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Kibawa prevents Simonsen from breaking the clinch.
Kibawa will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Simonsen up against the cage.

Kibawa gets control of Simonsen's arms and successfully pulls guard. Kibawa will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Simonsen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kibawa. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Kibawa manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Simonsen manages to get himself to full guard.
Simonsen is trying to hold Kibawa in close to prevent damage but Kibawa has managed to pass into half guard.
Simonsen is trying to control but Kibawa manages to pass to mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Kibawa tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Simonsen tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Kibawa is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Simonsen to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Simonsen shrugs it off.
Kibawa looking to control and managing it successfully.

Kibawa scoring with strikes but Simonsen is staying in there.
Kibawa unloads with some vicious shots from mount and Simonsen wants out - he looks towards the referee who steps in to save him! Kibawa celebrates on the cage and the crowd goes wild!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:34 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Muranda Kibawa!
