Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ji Lu!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Svyatoslav Vakarchuk!
The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Paul Aken and Wagner Zegers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Vakarchuk shoots in but Lu avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Lu changes levels and scores with a jab to the body.
Lu throws a body punch but Vakarchuk moves out of range.
A slapping leg kick lands for Lu.
Lu misses with a looping left.
Lu looks to score with a jab to the body but Vakarchuk is just out of range.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Lu looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
Vakarchuk ducks under a wild hook from Lu.
Vakarchuk looks like he wants to counter punch here.
Vakarchuk takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Lu pushing out the jab but it's not landing.

Vakarchuk sees a low kick coming and goes to check it, but it's actually a body kick and it thuds into his unprotected ribs.

Vakarchuk looking to score a takedown here. Lu is defending well but Vakarchuk drives through and ends up in Lu's guard.
Lu avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Vakarchuk has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Lu is pulling down on Vakarchuk's head. It's preventing any offense from Vakarchuk, at least for the moment.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Vakarchuk accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Lu looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Lu manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Vakarchuk manages to get himself to full guard.

Vakarchuk escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Lu gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Vakarchuk had isolated an arm as going for a kimura. Lu defends it easily.
Lu stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Vakarchuk swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Lu with a flurry of punches that miss.
Vakarchuk wants to sweep but no luck.
Lu loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Vakarchuk trying to keep a closed guard but Lu is proving a slippery customer.
Lu stands and throws Vakarchuk's legs to the side, diving into side control.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Lu loads up on a big right hand but Vakarchuk slips the punch.
Vakarchuk tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
Lu throws the left hand but Vakarchuk avoids the punch easily.
Lu throws a looping overhand right but Vakarchuk ducks down to avoid it.
Lu swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Ji Lu is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Vakarchuk takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch.

Lu lands a jab.


It looks like Svyatoslav Vakarchuk has been cut.
Lu pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Lu connects with a single shot there.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Lu looks to throw the jab but Vakarchuk is out of range.
Vakarchuk tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.

and Lu counters with a right hand that sends Vakarchuk tumbling to the canvas! Can Lu finish him? He dives into Vakarchuk's guard looking to do just that!


Vakarchuk is rocked!
This has been an exciting period of action!
Lu slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Vakarchuk is still in real trouble! Can Lu finish him?

Vakarchuk looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Vakarchuk seems to have recovered his senses.

Vakarchuk is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Lu is aware though and is defending well.
Vakarchuk wants to sweep but no luck.
Lu trying to control but Vakarchuk is working from the bottom.
Lu tries to free his leg and advance position but Vakarchuk is retaining full guard.
Vakarchuk is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Lu working some strikes from top position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ji Lu dominated that round.
The cut man is working on Svyatoslav Vakarchuk's cut.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Lu drops Vakarchuk with a naaaaasty hook - Vakarchuk is in real trouble here! Lu dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:05 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ji Lu!
Ji Lu retains his heavyweight title!
Our winner, Ji Lu, made sure he spent some time buttering up the crowd during his post fight interview, which will no doubt bring him a few more fans.
