Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Filips!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, James Atkins and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Filips misses with a two punch combination.
Hodges throws a lazy head kick
and Filips counters with a series of strikes. Hodges will be more careful next time no doubt.
Filips throws a series of punches but Hodges moves out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Filips!
Hodges dodges the punch combination from Filips.
Hodges fails with a takedown attempt.
Filips is loading up here, looking for a big counter of his own.

Filips wants to counter with a clinch but Hodges pushes him away.

Hodges shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Filips sprawls well. Filips wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hodges gets slowly back to his feet.

As Hodges backs off Filips throws a huge counter combo but Hodges manages to avoid it all.

Filips lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.
Filips throws a nice looking combination but Hodges bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.

and Filips counters with a nice body shot.
Hodges tries for a takedown but Filips circles away easily
and Filips counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.

Hodges darts in trying to clinch
and Filips counters with a left and a right that stings Hodges.
Hodges shoots for a double leg takedown but Filips sprawls well. He's pushed Hodges's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Filips tries to counter by closing the distance.
Hodges throws a head kick but Filips moves out of range.
Filips lets it all go there with a big combo counter but none of the punches connected.

Filips instigates a clinch.
Filips is trying to break free.
Filips blocks the elbow strike.

Filips pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Hodges has managed to clinch.
Hodges trying to land knees to the body.
Hodges tries to pull guard but Filips forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
Filips is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Hodges has Filips pressed against the cage, preventing Filips from circling away and getting back to striking at range.
Filips is trying to break free.

Filips pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Filips misses with a wild combination.
Filips looks to land a combination. Hodges sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Dave Filips dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Filips looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Hodges is defended easily by Filips.
Hodges throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.

Hodges could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

and Filips counters with a left and a right that stings Hodges.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Filips fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Filips shoots in looking for a takedown. Hodges tries to sprawl out of it but Filips keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hodges manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

and Filips cracks him with a counter punch right on the button.

Filips shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Hodges napping and manages to drive through into side control!

Hodges tries to bench press Filips off him but Filips keeps the position.
Filips wants to stand but Hodges has his arm trapped.
Hodges is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Filips has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Filips creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Hodges sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.
Filips wants to control but Hodges is keeping him busy.

Filips decides to stand back up.
Modesto Hodges seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Filips drives through with a takedown into guard.

Filips is looking to stand up but Hodges won't let him.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Hodges looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Filips trying to stand up but can't free himself from Hodges's guard.
Filips is breathing heavily.
Filips slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Hodges is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hodges thows a wild elbow that connects with the canvas.

Hodges is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Filips defends it well.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Filips wants to improve his position but Hodges is controlling well.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Hodges stalling.

Hodges stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Hodges.

Filips takes a kick to the side of the head.

Dave Filips showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Filips has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hodges has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage.

Filips fails with a takedown attempt.
Hodges half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range.

Filips wants to counter the offense by Hodges and move into the clinch position.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Filips tries to break the clinch but Hodges is controlling the position.

Filips is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range.
Filips misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Hodges has a takedown stuffed.

Filips throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hodges's waist but Hodges gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Filips off to one side.

The fighters are battling for position here. Hodges manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Filips wants to stand but Hodges is controlling his posture from full guard.
Hodges keeping moving, preventing Filips from controlling successfully.
Hodges bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Filips's guard.
Filips avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.

Hodges drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Hodges jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Hodges is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Filips wants to get back to his feet but Hodges is in a dominant position and won't allow it.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Filips is on top in guard.

Hodges gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Filips counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
Modesto Hodges has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Dave Filips is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Hodges has his head slapped from side to side by a 3 punch combination. That must have hurt him.

Dave Filips comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Filips has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
