PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Scott Fields (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Julius Creek (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Scott Fields!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Julius Creek!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Anthony Taglia and David Schapiro.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Creek darts in looking for a takedown but Fields gets double underhooks and turns Creek into the cage.
Fields drops down looking for a counter takedown but Creek sprawls and moves away.
Fields shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Creek as he jumps to the side.
Fields misses with a head kick.
Fields tries for a takedown but Creek circles away easily
and Creek connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Creek displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Fields.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Scott Fields. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Fields gets caught napping as Creek dives in and scores a takedown. Fields manages to retain guard.
Creek looks winded!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fields keeping moving, preventing Creek from controlling successfully.
Fields has improved his flexibility recently so we will have to see if he can use that to his advantage.
Fields is pulling down on Creek's head. It's preventing any offense from Creek, at least for the moment.

Fields lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Fields's corner is telling him to maintain position.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Creek moves in looking to clinch but Fields pushes him off.
Fields quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect.

Fields fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Creek to the ground. Fields is now in Creek's guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Fields engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Creek avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
Fields trying to control but Creek is working from the bottom.

Creek trying to keep a closed guard but Fields is proving a slippery customer.
Fields is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Fields loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Fields working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Fields postures up and lands a big shot to Creek's brow.
Fields advances to half guard.
Creek on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
Creek has been taking part in the yoga sessions down at Cozad MMA Los Angeles. Presumably he's going to look for a slick submission... Or maybe he's looking to avoid one.

Fields is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Fields is looking to take a break and control but Creek is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Fields lands a nice short elbow.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Creek is refusing to be controlled, as Fields sits in half guard.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Fields fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Creek is trying to avoid his opponent's strikes and get into the clinch.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Fields shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Creek keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Scott Fields is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fields tries to close the distance and clinch but Creek swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
Creek misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Fields.
Fields shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Creek tries a quick counter leg kick but Fields is wise to it.

Fields shoots in and bounces Creek off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Fields trying to control the position from guard on top but Creek is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Fields has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Fields is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.
Creek is breathing heavily.
Fields is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.

Creek is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Fields wants to control from the top but Creek keeps moving.
Fields postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Fields throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Fields postures up from his opponent's guard, before exploding into some vicious ground and pound! Creek covers up, he's hurt! Fields keeps throwing the strikes, glancing at the referee... Will he stop it?? One more big shot from Fields and the ref steps in to end the fight! Fields can't hide his delight as he celebrates with his corner.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:58 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Scott Fields!
