PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Philo Beddoe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Karl Marx (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Beddoe has a slight injury, which hopefully won't affect the fight too much. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Philo Beddoe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Karl Marx!
The judges for this bout are Ben Zyskovitsi, Marco Blurström and Roosa Järviläinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Marx darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Beddoe is breathing heavily.
Marx working Beddoe over with strikes.
Marx is nestled in close to Beddoe, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Beddoe has hold of Marx's hands but Marx slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
Marx lands strikes from half guard.
Marx takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.
Marx controlling the action here.
Marx wants to free his trapped foot but Beddoe is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Marx keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Marx passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Beddoe!

Marx lands a nice shot to the head.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Marx really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Beddoe. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Marx cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Beddoe is bucking up trying to escape but Marx cracks him with another couple of good strikes.
Marx lands a big shot there that rocks Beddoe but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.

Marx looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Beddoe keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

A nice elbow there by Marx.
The referee warns Beddoe that he has to improve his position here as he takes two more clean shots to the head.

Beddoe throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Marx tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Marx dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Beddoe swats away the attempt to clinch by Marx.

Beddoe gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Marx lands a couple of digs.
Marx working in close now, lands a nice elbow to the side of Beddoe's head.
Marx stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Beddoe swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Marx must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Beddoe wants to sweep but no luck.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Marx stays in close to Beddoe's body and controls the position.

Marx wants to control from the top but Beddoe keeps moving.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

Beddoe closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Marx to the mat! Marx manages to get full guard.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Marx can do anything to dispel that myth.

Beddoe stands up from guard. Let's bang!
Beddoe has a takedown stuffed.
Marx doesn't manage to clinch there - Beddoe circles away.

Marx shoots in and bounces Beddoe off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Marx passes easily into side control. Nice work.

Beddoe is looking to reverse the position.
Marx remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.
Beddoe tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Marx wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Marx connects with a decent looking elbow from side control that caused Beddoe some visible discomfort.

Marx stands up and we're back to a striking position.
Philo Beddoe is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

Marx shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Beddoe bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!

Marx has momentary wrist control but Beddoe slips an elbow through the middle.

Karl Marx showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Beddoe gets caught flat footed, as Marx shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.

Beddoe has his foot on Marx's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Marx works his way back into a safe position though.

Beddoe drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Marx gets the underhooks and prevents it.

Marx has Beddoe pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Beddoe manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.

Beddoe had isolated an arm as going for an omaplata. Marx is defending the submission well but is in a very vulnerable position. Beddoe Is leaning forward trying to finish the omaplata but decides to abandon it, and take Marx's back instead.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Marx shoots in but doesn't get the takedown
letting Beddoe counter with a right hand.
Philo Beddoe has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Karl Marx.
Marx shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Beddoe as he jumps to the side.
Marx looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Beddoe is fending him off so far but Marx persists. Nope, Beddoe circles away and we're back to standing.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Marx misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Marx fails to land with a series of punches.
Marx avoids a low kick by using good footwork.
Marx shoots in but no luck this time.
Beddoe takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Beddoe shoots in for a double leg but Marx sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
Beddoe has a takedown stuffed.
Marx gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Beddoe decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Marx's guard.
Beddoe pushes down on Marx's leg and manages to get into half guard.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Philo Beddoe.
I think Marx has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
