PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Oyster Sauce (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Shaka Zoula (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Shaka Zoula was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 1, fighting out of The Island, Oyster Sauce!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Shaka Zoula!
The judges for this bout are Santiago Holmes, Michael Johnstone and Daniel Franklin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Zoula scoring well with a low kick there.
Zoula leaves Sauce with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Zoula darts in and clinches Sauce up against the cage.
Zoula misses with a short punch on the inside.
Zoula misses with a punch on the inside.
Zoula tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sauce's elbow.
Zoula has Sauce pressed against the cage.
Sauce blocks an uppercut.

Zoula pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Sauce dives in for a single leg takedown but Zoula sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Zoula stuffs the takedown attempt from Sauce. Sauce gets slowly back to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Oyster Sauce. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Zoula throws a head kick that misses.
Sauce went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Sauce is defended easily by Zoula.

Zoula is looking to land body kicks.
Zoula tries a head kick but it misses.
It looked like Sauce was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.
Zoula throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
The sound of bone on bone echoes around the arena as Sauce checks a leg kick.
Sauce closes this distance looking for a takedown but Zoula circles away.

Zoula drives through and clinches with Sauce against the cage.
Sauce is trying to drag Zoula to the mat but Zoula just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
Zoula connects with a knee to the head.
Zoula tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Sauce's elbow.
Zoula misses with a short punch on the inside.
Zoula tries a knee to the head but Sauce blocks it.
Sauce takes a knee right on the jaw!

An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Zoula.
Zoula swings wildly with an uppercut but Sauce uses good head movement to avoid it.
Sauce blocks a punch to the side of the head.
Zoula tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Sauce blocks an uppercut.
Zoula is pushing Sauce up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Sauce changes levels and goes for a takedown here. Zoula fights it off and pushes away nicely.

Zoula lets loose with a powerful body kick. Sauce will feel that in the morning.
Sauce fails with a takedown attempt.
Sauce shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Zoula pinned against the cage. Zoula gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
A head kick misses from Zoula.
Zoula finds nothing but air with that leg kick attempt.
Sauce goes for a double leg but Zoula avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Zoula continues to drive forward.
Sauce is breathing heavily.
Zoula fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Sauce has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.

Zoula will need to close the distance a bit before he attacks - that leg kick was thrown from too far away.

Sauce shoots in and drives through. Zoula sprawls well.

Zoula closes the distance and clinches.
Zoula tries to work over Sauce's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Zoula misses with the head strike.
A bit of stalling here from Zoula.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Zoula misses with a hook from the clinch.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Zoula creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Zoula tries to throw a body punch but Sauce avoids it by throwing Zoula back against the cage.
Zoula misses with some punches.
Zoula misses with the head strike.
Zoula misses with a punch on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Shaka Zoula dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Zoula throws a leg kick but Sauce sees it coming and checks it nicely.

Zoula throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.
Sauce appears to be looking for a big counter.

Sauce bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Zoula wants to get back to his feet.
Sauce tries to move to mount but Zoula blocks the move with his legs.

Sauce is trying to get an arm triangle but Zoula is defending well.
Sauce tries to advance to mount but can't.
Zoula is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Sauce working hard here to secure a kimura but he's not really in the right position for it.
Zoula prevents Sauce from improving position.
Zoula really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Sauce. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Sauce advances nicely into full mount.
Zoula wants to get back to his feet.

Sauce has control of Zoula's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Zoula regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Sauce wants to finish this one by submission but Zoula is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Sauce.

Sauce fails to advance to Zoula's back.
Zoula is not a happy chappy… he wants out of there.
Sauce wants to take his opponent's back but he's not managed it.
Zoula wants to try and get back to his feet.

Sauce is going oldschool here, as he tries to force Zoula to tap using a forearm choke. This isn't 1993 though, so Zoula shrugs it off.

Zoula is really trying hard to get back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sauce has the rear naked choke here! This is very bad for Zoula! Can he survive? No! He's out! Sauce gets to his feet and celebrates with his cornermen. He looks absolutely delighted. In the post fight interviews he takes time to thank his parents and everyone who has believed in him from the start. How sweet.
