PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Mick Gerrard (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Vladimir Kharitonov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gerrard might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Mama weer all crazy now. The crowd seem to be enjoying Kharitonov's choice of entrance music: BLUNT - Raggae All Day. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Kharitonov is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
A bone on bone clash there as Kharitonov blocks the leg kick.
Gerrard is looking to clinch but Kharitonov is avoiding it.
Kharitonov takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Kharitonov slaps away a takedown attempt from Gerrard, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Gerrard throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Kharitonov lands a nice looking body shot.
Gerrard rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Kharitonov moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Kharitonov slips under a jab.
Kharitonov misses with a head kick.
Kharitonov darts in and out, connecting with a jab.

It looks like Mick Gerrard has been cut.
Gerrard stooping low to avoid any incoming strikes and then lunges in with an uppercut come cross that lands flush.
Gerrard thuds his right hand into Kharitonov's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Gerrard fails to land with a series of punches.
Kharitonov scores with a nice strike.
Gerrard fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Kharitonov looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Kharitonov wants to slow Gerrard down by chopping away at his legs.
Kharitonov throws a looping overhand right but Gerrard ducks down to avoid it.
Kharitonov takes a shot to the body in his stride.

Gerrard moves out of range of the leg kick from Kharitonov.
Gerrard takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
A decent looking cross lands there for Gerrard.

Vladimir Kharitonov is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Gerrard connects with a good right hand that stumbles Kharitonov. Kharitonov circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Gerrard pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A slapping leg kick lands for Gerrard.
Gerrard tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Kharitonov was well out of range. Poor timing from Gerrard.
Kharitonov throws a low kick but it's checked well by Gerrard.
Gerrard scores with the left hand. Kharitonov knows he should have avoided that one.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Gerrard definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Kharitonov breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
A cross from Kharitonov lands.
Kharitonov misses with a head kick.
Kharitonov swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.
Kharitonov jabs. That one connects to the head of his opponent.
Gerrard throws a leg kick
and Kharitonov counters with a nice uppercut.
Gerrard on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Kharitonov. Kharitonov obviously looking to wear him down.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Gerrard is defended easily by Kharitonov.
Gerrard misses with an attempted mid kick.
Kharitonov lands a jab to the nose.
Gerrard uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Kharitonov has time to react.
Gerrard punishes Kharitonov's body with a nice straight punch.
Gerrard looks to land a combination but Kharitonov avoids it well.

Gerrard is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Kharitonov misses with a hook. Gerrard ducked under it nicely.

Gerrard lands with a two punch combination before moving back out of range.

Gerrard throws a jab but it's blocked by Kharitonov.
Kharitonov throws a hook to the side of Gerrard's head but Gerrard sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Gerrard tries to close the distance and clinch but Kharitonov swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.
The fighters circling - Gerrard throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Kharitonov throws a jab but it's blocked by Gerrard.
Kharitonov throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Gerrard sees it coming and avoids it easily.
Gerrard takes a really solid shot there but just smiles back and shrugs his shoulders.

Kharitonov walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Kharitonov throws a front kick aimed at Gerrard's knee but Gerrard avoids it well.
Gerrard throws a leg kick
and Kharitonov counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
Nice straight punches there by Gerrard. You know Roy Jones Jr respects the hands of Gerrard.
Gerrard's corner calls for a 1-2. Gerrard obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Gerrard slips a straight right by Kharitonov.
Kharitonov swats away the attempt to clinch by Gerrard.
Gerrard fakes with a right hand and throws a good leg kick, right into the thigh. That had to hurt Kharitonov.
Kharitonov on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
The crowd applaud the fighters' efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Kharitonov ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Kharitonov uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Gerrard.
Gerrard misses with a series of wild punches.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mick Gerrard will probably get the nod.

Gerrard lands a pitter patter jab to the forehead of his opponent.
Gerrard bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Kharitonov misses with a hook.
Gerrard lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook.

Kharitonov is rocked!
Gerrard throws a quick head kick that knocks Kharitonov silly! This fight is all over! What a finish! Gerrard is up on the cage, taking in the applause from the crowd.
