Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Whip Whop!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 5 - 0, fighting out of The Island, Karl Geriosa!
The judges for this bout are Michael Johnstone, Daniel Franklin and Peter Branson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Whop tries to bum rush Geriosa with a series of wild strikes but Geriosa uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Whop tries to clinch but Geriosa moves out of range.

Geriosa closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Whop quickly recovers to half guard.
Whop trying to hold on to Geriosa's head to control him but Geriosa postures up.
Geriosa scores with a couple of good hammerfists.
Geriosa wants to stand up but Whop is controlling the position.
Whop wants to improve his position but Geriosa is controlling well.
Whop could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Geriosa is looking to stall here but Whop recovers full guard.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Whop is on top in guard.


Geriosa is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Whop presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.

Geriosa pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Geriosa changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Whop looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Geriosa cracks Whop with a big elbow.
Whop can't do much from the bottom here.
Whop is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Geriosa is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.
Geriosa remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Geriosa tries for a kimura but Whop is defending well.
Whop is trying to improve his position.

Whop is looking to work his way out of this bad position but Geriosa is controlling him well.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Whop is trying to control Geriosa's posture but Geriosa avoids it.

Geriosa wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Whop, who protects the arm well.
Geriosa takes advantage of some sloppy striking from Whop to pass into mount.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Whop is trying desperately to improve position.
Whop tries to hold on but Geriosa pushes him away.
Whop is working to get back to half guard.
Whop tries to lock up and control but Geriosa gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Whop keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.
Whop bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Geriosa dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Whop shoots in but no luck this time.
Whop shoots and misses
and Geriosa counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Whip Whop is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Whop shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Geriosa pinned against the cage. Geriosa gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Whip Whop. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Geriosa on the wrong end of a nice low kick. He's acting like it's no big deal but he doesn't want to take many more of those.

and Geriosa decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Whop's guard.

Whop is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Geriosa must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Whop is looking for a sweep. Geriosa is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Whop is refusing to be controlled, as Geriosa sits in half guard.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Whop is looking to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Whop shoots in for a takedown but Geriosa shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Geriosa tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
A head kick misses from Geriosa.

Whop feinted with a counter takedown.
Whop fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Whop is looking to chop away at Geriosa's legs.

Geriosa shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Whop is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Whop has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Geriosa is working away from the top position though.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Still in half guard, Geriosa seems content to control.
Whop is looking to improve his position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
No joy there for Geriosa, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Karl Geriosa showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business. This is the final round!


Whop throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Geriosa's waist but Geriosa gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Whop off to one side.

Geriosa manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Whop on his heels. He'll look to pass Whop's guard now, I'm sure.
Geriosa has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Whop avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
My spies in Cozad The Island inform me that Geriosa has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends!

Geriosa might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Whop haven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.

Whop loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Whop throws an elbow that misses. Geriosa uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Whop's guard. Nice move by Geriosa!

Whop tries to get to full guard but Geriosa has control of the leg.

Well, if Geriosa is going to just lie there, perhaps we should talk about what we're having for dinner tonight… I'm having a ham and pineapple pizza… Yum. Can't wait.
Whop holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Whop dives in for a single leg takedown but Geriosa sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Geriosa circles away from the clinch attempt.

Geriosa closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Whop is being controlled here.
You can see the frustration on Whop's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Karl Geriosa has got the better of the ground game so far.
Geriosa tries to move to mount but Whop blocks the move with his legs.
Geriosa wants to lay and pray for a moment but Whop keeps working.

Geriosa closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Whop's guard.

Geriosa makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.

Whop has an active guard here but Geriosa has managed to pass into half guard.

Karl Geriosa comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Geriosa has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
